Am currently reading Mondo Enduro by Austin Vince and his 'Mondo Crew', very good read and inspiring. Read a couple of the Long Way Round/Down/Sideways books by Charlie Boorman and Ewan McGregor and found them dire, dour and very product placement mentioning!

Today I bought Mike Carter's 'Uneasy Rider' about a 42 year old bloke who's never riden a bike in his life, and decides to ride for 6 months covering 20,000 miles and 27 Countries, plus he can't map read.

Are there any other interesting books out there, with round the world tales that are funny and also inspiring.

This is all in preparation for my eventual world wide trek in 2 - 3 years time. SWMBO gave me the thumbsup.gif for this last weekbiggrin

I liked the McGregor/Boorman books, but thoroughly enjoyed 'Uneasy Rider'. Not just for the biking bits, but it's well written (he's a journo) and amusing with much relevant commentary on mid-life.

I liked the suggestion that we shouldn't send young kids to war, but should send middle-aged blokes instead, for the following reasons:

1) They like playing with big, load machines.
2) They're all ****ing angry!
3) Nobody would miss them.

A recommended read!

Mark, I've read load's of these sort of books, always been a dream of mine to do something similiar. Might happen one day! Might just stay a dream, only time will tell.smile

Try these. All a good read.

The Road to Gobblers Knob.(yes it is a real title!) Geoff Hill.
Way To Go.                 Geoff Hill.
Old Man On A Bike. Simon Gandolfi.
Triumph Around The World.     Robbie Marshall.
The Rugged Road. Theresa Wallach.

Also any of Sam Manicoms books,  or Lois Pryce. Not forgetting Ted Simons Jupiters Travels!

That should keep you quiet for  a while!!

Hated Uneasy rider, thought he was a knob! Came across as a fairly pathetic middle aged bloke who was sorry for himself with nothing to feel sorry about!

Sorry but I really didn't like it and in fact gave up about two thirds of the way through as it just felt like an unremitting dirge!

Enjoyed Boormans books ( even with product placement) as they seemed like a laugh, but the (autographed) ME books are brilliant.

Read Guevara's Motorcycle Diaries. It's a fair classic and I absolutely loved it. I loved the idea that he packed everything in and went off on a massive ride with his best mate!
