I need some mechnical advice

I need to buy an adjusting screw for a large regulatorblankstare

The screw is a threaded bar type thing with a rounded end which applies pressure to a plate. The top of this bar has a machined hex on it so it can be turned with a spanner.

The part is SCREW ADJ 1/2-13 X 3.572   STL

Can anyone decipher this engineering speak and let me know what that actually is.

Much appreciated if you can.

cheers, Rich.wink

Seems you have the ultimate example of the metric/imperial mismatch that we still have in engineering in the uk

1/2 - 13 is a Half inch outside diameter thread with a 13 threads per inch pitch

the 3.752 could be core diameter at the bottom of the threads or the effective thread diameter the height of the threads

3.752 is 0.1457" however looking in my data book I cannot find a thread listed that matches any of these

As it comes off a regulator it is probably a one off from the manufacturer to stop any non standard parts from being fitted

What make of regulator is it, as I have lots of old regs and may have a bit that might fit

Cheers for the info gaschef.

That number is 3.572 not 3.752 - does that help match any threads?

The reg is a US made instrument from Jordan (or Jordan Valve).

Never heard of a Jordan Reg stick a piccy on and I will see if it looks anything  like any of the regs I use or have bits for

1/2-13 X 3.572

Isn't this a typical american screw terminology?

1/2 screw thread diameter (in inches), -13 is thread pitch (in this case a fine thread or UNF) and 3.572 the length of screw shaft (in inches).

We have many similar identified screws here at work. Although the 3.572 does seem a bit absolute for a length!!?? Measure the length and see if it fits the bill.

1/2" x 13 is normal UNC

quite freely available in this country.

It could be 13cm in length - can't be absolutely sure of the total length as it's missing some of it's length. The hex end got snapped off somehow.confuse

Oh well, looks like we'll have to get it from the manufacturer (and pay the extortionate sumdisbelief).

Cheers for having a look & a think guys.wink
