2 Stroke fuel consumption.....

Has been discussed before and was a reason I was given not to get a 2 stroke....

Normally I just fill it up when it gets empty and don't take much note (or care really) about MPG wink

But on a ride Sunday I did take note of the distance, and it was a reasonable paced ride with quite a lot of road work.......it was a tad over 60 miles door to door and those with me would verify this.

The tank on my KTM 250 EXC 2T was brimmed when I left home and on Sun night I filled her back up.

So come on then - 60 miles, reasonable pace, good amount of road work........how much fuel did it take to fill it back up??????

8 litres?

The Gasser went on reserve @ 68 miles, although that was before I altered the float bowl height. Never been on a ride where we have ridden for a solid 60 miles, and not been too far from a petrol stop.

I get approx 35mpg from my 4T, so I will guess at approx 30mpg if there was a fair amount of road work - 6L in total?confuse

4.5L to the gallon so that was about 50mpg - pretty good!

BTW - Doug filled his Husky (2 stroke) up at approx 26 miles (I'm going off the track log) and brimmed his with 4L  so even that one was giving 30 mpg

I think my tank is 11.5 L so I could in therory do over 100 miles on a tank - I have done 80 before and not hit reserve so it kinda bears that out......

Quite chuffed and suprised at 50 MPG - but then I guess if I was wanging round a track then the sub 20 MPG figures i had been warned about would be much nearer the truth wink

Just looked it up - says yours has a 7.5 L tank - that right?

If so 68 miles on 7 ish L is over 40 MPG........

Well 68 mls at 8.5L (assuming a 1 L reserve) still gives over 35 MPG...

Indeed you did - and told me I would be bonkers to swap my TTR for a 250 EXC 2T biggrin as you spent all your time on the back wheel disbelief

I am bonkers and never listen.......wink

That's pretty good mileage there JT. wink
It's amazing how ecconomical a modern 2T can be if it's calmed down and you don't rag it.

I don't often bother to check mpg but on the Devon Challenge camping trip last year I decided see what kind of mileage I'd get when used in a 'Adverture Rider' type mode - I averaged 55 mpg (with non-standard gearing, standard gearing would have done better).
That was 404 miles and 7.26 gallons of petrol - 6 fill ups but it was a case of get some whenever you can and not when you need it.biggrin

I think now I'll check the old girl's mpg on the next run to see how she does.smile
