Just wanted to know if anyone had entered any the Exmoor Enduro club events before.
Being in Somerset Im finding it harder and harder to find places to ride without coming across friction. I know the Devon & Somerset TRF hold a few events during each year, but Im used to riding more regularly.
I was looking at either ASW or Exmoor clubs, but am ensure if I will find them too competitive for my rather layed back riding style. I like to ride stopping occasionally and not compete with bikes blasting across me.
Had a bit of an interesting chat with a land owner last Saturday, once I removed my helmet and chatting with him for a while he chilled somewhat, but he suggested joining a club. But I explained the problem that the TRF events are far a few between.
Do any of you ride in the enduro clubs events?

I rode the end of season Endurocross with ASW which consisted of 2 x 1 hour races, very relaxed and as competitive as ud like. They have 6 x Endurocross and 3 x hare scrambles throughout the season. Very good club...

ORE Events are superb have 3 Rounds in somerset and really are well organised. Marshalled for them all this season and it was a good laugh. Great bunch of guys and everyones freindly
Marshalling is a good way to get into the sport at first, im competeing in next year

I have heard good things about ASW. I actually signed up to an enduro event last year with them but had bike problems and didn't make it. Maybe I'll have to join up again for next years events.
One (dumb) question though: What is the difference between an enduro event and a hare scramble?

Same thing I believe Enduro = European Hare Scramble = American
Both are quite an expensive way to ride compared to our trail riding, but not so different in the terrain covered, albeit the competitive nature of them precludes using public highways where racing is illegal in the uk.
the way i see it is a true enduro is a time card type enduro where you have a predetermined time to compleat a section before going onto next section.exmoor have run one of these for the last two years brass monkey in and around huntsham.hare and hound is the more common type at the moment around here 2.5 or 3 hour and as many laps as possible.both exmoor and asw run these.asw also run the enduro cross which are shorter in time and length of track 2x 1 hour races for adults
Enduro long open track time trial type event with special speed sections timed/ time check points? second or third lap times are tightened add the track chewed up hard going to keep on your time event starts on your alotted time in groups of four
Hare and hound more of a MX race over as meny laps as you can do in a alloted 2-3 hours winner covers the most laps start is on mass ? for each class championship riders away first followed in turn turn about experts senoirs clubman sportsmans
both event take place on private land costs £35-£45 to enter ?
Think I'm going to try a few enduro events next year. As you say though could get expensive so I'll see how it goes.
My next tyre change is going to be a for trials tyre, want to get used to riding with it before the events start. Exmoor enduro regs also state rear trials tyre only as TRF do. I did have a half worn one I borrowed for the Somerset TRF forest ride, but didn't get on to well with it on the DRZ (hillclimbs!). I have a KTM now so hoping should get on better with a new PirelliMT43 Trails fitted on a much lighter bike.

Good choice of bike! I run an MT43 on my EXC and it is fine, but in certain deep wet muddy east devon lanes my old metzler is often missed, but only in the winter months.
