They had a main bearing fault that was eventually replaced free by KTM if you caught it before it caused other problems.....as far as I know they were fine strong engines and bikes thereafter. Frames rust on all KTMs 1998- 2003 but later twin front disc adventure models were a bit fierce if you did intend heading mudward is my understanding
