any body ever got their money back from a garage after the car they bought was playing up from the start?
misses bought a peugeot 308 from denbury diesels and after a couple of days the engine started rattling when you started it and when you shut it down.
faulty tappet apparently, anyway, problem fixed but same thing happened again 2 days after getting it back,
we have now lost faith in the car and it is definately getting worse so some thing has made the tappets go.
they are obviously offering to repair it but we are only 2months into a £7,500 pound car and if its playing up now it will be a hefty bill after the warrentee runs out!
just wondered if anyone has had success from the same predicament.
Is it a 2.0Hdi or the 1.6hdi? My uncle had the 16 and no end of trouble with it. He had similar trouble and finally the whole camshaft had to be replaced as it was found to have a manufacturing fault. He lost faith in the car bought the 2.0 version and its been perfect!
i think you will find if they offer to sort it out then there is not much you can do, trading standard will say they have offered to fix the car, if its unsafe to drive trading standard can take them to court,THEN THEY WILL PROBERLY GIVE YOU DOSH BACK THAT WOULD SAFE THE BAD PRESS . Yes, a 6 month old ford from a 'main dealer' in Exeter - stood in the middle of the showroom and stated my case, persisted despite 2 salesmen trying to 'pursuade' me to go into a side room to discuss.
Long story but I ended up driving away in a brand new one difference with your story is the time, as I took mine back within a week.....
They are a long standing well established firm and won't want thier reputation tarnished - ask for your money back.
How old is it? - is it still under Pugnut warranty?
its a 58 plate, i believe their is a 5 years warranty on the engine. i plan to do the same,stand in and not be persuaded into a side room, i think if i keep on enough at them they will offer me another car at best but even that would be a start!
If you have any finance on the car, i would also contact them and mention your problem, if you state that you will withhold any payments until sorted then sometimes they will get involved to assist with your problems. A friend of mine done this on a audi a4 and ended getting a complete new engine fitted.

I wouldn't recomend doing that, you just might end up loosing the car and still having payments to make. Really, don't mess about with finance companies as they don't care whether your car runs or not, just that you make your payments, and a healthy personal credit rating is some thing to be guarded nowadays.
car was paid for with cash,(thanks to mother in law) just been to see denbury diesels and took the main mechanic out for a drive, the noise was louder in the car than out side and he picked up on it straight away, saying it was the dual fly master cylinder, massive job apparently but as it is covered by the warrenty i am kinda glad it has gone wrong now,
if it is not to our satisfaction after the job is complete then we can talk about exchanging it etc. so all in all a good (ish) outcome!
by law all they have to do is repair car and give you a car to use while yours is being repaired but if its in garage for a week or longer you can get warranty extended by the ammount of time its been in for repair as i have done this myself a few years ago i brought a golf and it was in and out of garage for about a month so i got them to extend warranty and i got a case of beer

I was only going by what a friend did and the finance company actually assisted in his problem, saying and doing is 2 diferent things, but used in sentance just to get noticed worked for him.

Yeh, I get what your saying and it can't hurt to see if you can get the company onside, any outside help is good as it could help to put pressure on the garage but I wouldn't roll in there guns a blaze'in and telling them that basically you will stop paying if they don't sort the garage out for you.
Their contract is with you and not the garage. I would be surprised if they had any real influence with the garage at all, they are just the current finance company that the garage is using. Threatening to stop paying is more likely to put the finance company into a position against you - then you'll have 2 fights on your hands which actually aren't related, and could result in your car being seized by the finance company once the garage has finished with it. Of cause, this is only if you actually did stop making payments but as you stated "saying & doing are two different things" I just wanted to make sure anyone else reading this also understood that.

I wouldn't do that, the Finance Co will cite a default and then be reluctant to help you out with the supplier
