The only reason people get lost in thought is because it's unfamiliar territory.
It was refurbished by Road Angel a little while ago after I used the wrong charger.
They check over the whole unit, including battery, and replace everything necessary, it's a fantastic service for around £50 and you've pretty much got a new unit then.
I only used it a few times after that before upgrading to Sat Map.
