I recall a very similar story may have been RichXR's

The way this bit is written:

' Due to my location and since view is not an option I have requested personal support and I was approved to use Buyer Protection Program'

Rings alarm bells with me straight away cause that sounds more like it was written by a little african chap using google translate than a ginger haired chap in a kilt and Tam O Shanter evileye

Stay well away.....

Anyway what do you want a shonky old VW van for disbelief

Trying to buy a converted T4 from mid Scotland, and the listing has been removed from eBay and I have been warned about contacting the member.

I have had this email from him about how we woudld do the transaction, does anyone have any experiance of this?

I have a local transport company Shiply that will take care of delivery. Due to my location and since view is not an option I have requested personal support and I was approved to use Buyer Protection Program. Here is how the process works:
- you give me your full name and shipping address
- I start the transaction with the eBay,
- they send further payment instructions,
- you have to pay for the item to eBay to secure the funds,
- they confirm me that they received the funds,
- I deliver the van,
- you receive the van,
- they send me the money.
Everything is covered by eBay. I will get paid only after you confirm that you received the van in good order.
Let me know if this is acceptable. Thank you

Does sound suspect - why has it been remove from ebay if they are supposedly offering protection on the sale?

I don't use ebay but unless you can guarantee your money I'd be very wary - the ebay warning seems reason enough to be cautious, and the wording of the e-mail sounds a bit 419 to me   Distance doesn't help either....

dont tell me that you cant find one local.there everywhere down ere.i know a guy in wellington who trades in them.also supplys the custom bars.lowering kits and wheels.i see if i can find his number.

as for buying the on in scotland i would stay well clear of handing any money over for a van ive not seen.bought a land rover of ebay 6 years ago from scotland.cash on delivery terms but when it turned up in the back of a lorry it was hanging.

Flying up to Glasgow in 3 weeks to do some training, the idea was to get a colleague (who live in Scottieland) to view it, and I was going to drive it back!

Which is when I got the above email.

I didn't think eBay got involved in any payment transactions. Any purchases completed outside of the online bidding/buy it now process is outside the eBay protection.

If the seller said he lived in Nigeria you wouldn't touch it with someone elses barge pole, this just looks like a new slant on the old favourite.

The fact you're asking the question though, probably answers it.

I think this may be similar to what happened to RichXR a while back. His "bike" was in Scotland and I think he paid for it with the supposed ebay protection scheme but the bike never turned up, he lost his dosh and ebay wouldn't entertain any refund or indeed help as it wasn't a genuine ebay page he was using to sell. I think he tried to get the police involved and they too wouldn't act.

A very expensive error of judgement. i think the thread is on here somewhere for the full story.
