If ever there was a case for bringing back the burning tyres placed around early speed cameras, this is it.

I do around 30k business miles a year and can't afford to lose my licence so I use the novel approach of observing the speed limits when driving. Perhaps a shocking suggestion but it seems to work for me.

One of the many things that irritate me on the motorways are the foreign plated cars that go hooning past with impunity. My personal suspicion is that our boys in blue don't bother stopping our Euro chums as it can get a little complicated when Debbun is your first language and English your second, so just watch them go sailling by, and take out their frustrations on otherwise law abiding citizens doing 78mph on a clear road on a dry sunny day.

That article suggests things may change with this new gadget "They can also monitor foreign drivers, due to improved data access." - so I won't be complaining anytime soon.

I await the wrath of the DTRF...

Regardless of your views on speed, everyone exceeds it at some point (and I dunno when 78mph was a legal speed!) and this camera will give you no room for argument, exceed it and you'll get done. I'm no longer in the "go as fast you can everywhere" club, I was once, but I do sit on the motorway at 80mph when conditions suit, and to keep up with town traffic on major roads I'm usually plodding along at 35mph-ish. Not any more it seems. These cameras do nowt for safety, just a money spinner for the crooks we've elected.

78mph is an example of a speed that you can be procecuted for. I've always understood that you are very unlikely to get stopped and procecuted for anything less than the speedlimit + 10%. i.e. you're ok to do 22mph, 33mph etc.

I'm not saying that I've never exceeded the speed limit, just that if I'm caught I stand to lose a lot. Also, driving is a lot less stressful when you're not checking every hill brow or bush for potential "safety" cameras.

I agree it's just a money making excercise, but don't intend to give them any of mine.

Cameras don't stop crap drivers....the ****s driving mile after mile in the outside lane with nowt in the inside.....the nobs who drive at 40 on a dual carriageway........the ones who think that a indicator 'opens a gap' rather than being an indication of the intention to make a move.......the dick heads who still insist on using the mobile while driving......the uninsured........the banned........the unroadworthy vechs.........etc etc etc....

Cameras stop none of this and all these things cause more accidents than going 10-15mph over the limit - if it was all about safety then we would put more police officers on the road (well everywhere) not cameras.

I have no concerns about overtaking a police car at 80 on the motorway, but I rarely go over that now, 9 points tend to slow you down!

Round town is 30, no excuse, none.

Agree with all of them JT, but that one up there's the one that gets me - "look, I'll flash my indicator (clue's in the name) for 0.001 of a second which means it's OK for me to pull out right in front of you on the motorway". Lanes 2/3 hogs get me too. Oh, oh - you got me on a roll now, the worst one I've ever seen was a month or two back driving down the M4 in Wales, and there was a little Ka on the inside. Had pink flowers stuck all over it, so I'm thinking obviously owned by a young lady (or Pearcy). Anyway, when I passed her she had a f**king iPad or similar tablet on her steering wheel and was using it!!!

Used to have fun with lane hogs on the Sprint ST. Power up behind them in lane 2, indicate, pass them shaking my head, then point to the inside lane. FFS! Most used to move over, some didn't.

I agree, but round here the traffic on main roads in and out of town tends to flow at around 35mph. In built up areas it's much less and often the limit is 20mph anyway which I'll obey.

Average speed cameras with built in ANPR. Never had a problem with speed cameras. Set a few off but never had a NIP.

Got flashed near Stonehenge once but that turned out to be a horny druid.....

I'll take that with a little pinch of salt just now. Speed camera detector company talking up the threat??

That said on another forum I use a rise in "speed awareness courses" has been noted, however this is put down to the fact that they can no longer keep speed camera revenue but they can charge for the courses. Double edged sword though, I'd rather pay a bit more and be patronised for half a day then get points.
