Build quality, a 2004 gas gas ec300 will regually go for around 1000-1200 quid whereas a KTM will still be 1800-2k, New gassers are better some stay but after seeing freinds bikes and having 2 trials bikes previouslycmyself i have no desire to own another!!! Thats my own personal opinion of course.

There are more spare parts shed by KTM's around the lanes, than by Gassers.  On a positive note Gas Gas do make stands out of steel not cheese

I'd probably buy another Beta with a 400 KTM rfs engine but that wouldn't tick the reliable box. Unfortunately there is no bike that will tick all the boxes as I think in a lot of cases you'd need more than £2k to get the right KTM although there are good ones for less if you're lucky. Have you not considered a two stroke? Light, Fun and reliable.

unsure about how much of the engine is ktm but you are deluded if you think a rfs engine is not reliable you ether have been trying to port it with a bag of sand or took a dump in the oil filler cap

read the adventure fourms pepole put have put 20000 miles on them without pulling the engine apart  would love to se that from and wr or crfx etc

I don't remember being such an obnoxious tawt at your age (Rog???).  What is your problem?  Taking a dump in the filler cap would have little detrimental effect, I suggest doing it  in the engine....

Not knocking the RFS engine we have a few here, best medium to light weight engine out there for what we use them for. It was the rest of the bike that I've had reliability issues with but a Beta can be had for a lot less than £2k and that was one of the stipulations. My Beta was on sale for £1200 not so long ago on a 55 plate.

I wouldn't knock the WR engine either as there are some with mega hours on them still going strong, it's all down to how you look after them.

Myself being a dumb ass oldie , that averages out at approx 1.8 bikes a year.
GasGas is far from budget build quality now and how you can judge after such a short
Period f ownership Christ knows.
Whoever gets to buy mine ( if and when I sell her) will get a well sorted and cared for

Anyway, back on topic, without vermiculus homo interference......wink

If I had an (SWMBO) authorised spare £2K, and the 450 was still in the garage, I would buy either a EXC 250 2T or a 300 2T, purely for the grin factor.biggrin
