Dual Sport machines

Motorcycle USA magazine has currently tested 3 dual purpose sport machines.

Honda CRF250L : Yamaha WR250R : Kawasaki KLX250S

CLICKY ARTICLE here

I'll not spoil it by telling you the outcome.

The tests are quite detailed. It's a pity they haven't tried a KTM or GG in the line up.

I must admit that I claim ignorance regarding the clasification of these types of motorcycles.

Here is a KTM example ........

KTM 350 EXC

350_EXC-F_USA_90d.jpg

and here is a Gas Gas example  .............

Gas Gas EC 450

But, being as how they're shown in USA publications they're probably not what we would class as dual sport?

I don't even know if they're available here. confuse

Yeh, the yanks do tend to be more specific in what is classed as a daul sport. Generally it seems to be the more road going versions of a trail bike. The shoot out was just for 250's though so that's why I questioned what offerings KTM or GG had in that cc group.

Good find Martyn!

Shame Yamaha prices itself out of the market again as it did with the TTR no

There is the XT250 as a cheaper alternative, I've ridden a couple of customers bikes and they're on a par with the KLX and WR's that I've ridden. Suitable for the shorter rider as well.

Yamaha don't seem to have any 250 dual sports in their current catalogue - see here

However, go to Yamaha Europe and they list the WR250R - see here - clearly Yamaha don't see the UK as part of Europe!

Can't see the fuel-injected XT250 (Serow?) listed in Europe - you might have to go to Oz (or the States) to buy a new one - see here wink

I wonder why the Serow wasn't included in the magazine shoout out. Too many Yams then I guess.

If your going to buy a dual sport bike in Europe then for the money I still think AJP is your best bet as light or even lighter than the oriental machines with a Pualio sus fat bars etc that's what I would part my money on enduro ? the Raigia and gas gas with the WR250 yam engines look good but at more money plus the Hondas crf250x new with 0% finance right now worth alook

This would get my vote and appears to be not bad value compared to some of the bikes out there.

Lovely choice of music - The Cure - A Forest - ahh, back in the day this was the soundtrack to my student days in the college bar in Cardiff, me in my flying jacket with the TS125er Suzuki falling apart outside - Happy days!

you would do the right thing and get a quality used bike not a hunk of crap made from leftovers in the parts bin like ccm etc

They do a 240 version as well now....http://www.ajpmotos.co.uk/ajp-motorcycle-range/pr3_240cc_ultrapassar/

Which I would like to see in the flesh

And you can get the PR5 for £3850 new I note if you get the 'trail' version.
