oil for my gasser?

Hi folks I have a quick querie for your experienced minds to hopefully answer. My gas gas fse 400 which is now running like a dream(thanks to a how kick start lesson to from dug and the boys) is currently being run on full synthetic oil. I read this was the best and having ceased up an RGV 250 back in the day by running regular oil I was wondering does it really make a difference? I was tempted to run regular 4 stroke oil to save money but will the engine suffer from scrimping on quality oil? Oh and also is anyone out and about over the bank holiday weekend near tiverton, crediton, honiton way? Again. Thanks in advance. NJ

Hey doug Im loving the kickstart now and the confidence has boosted no end. No longer worried about getting trapped in the woods. Ill look into those oils too. Silkolene is what Im running at the moment I think. And the event. Is that for trf payed members or just forum users? Dont mind paying the 15 buff if its not to late,or my bikes not too loud? cheers nj

Thor recommend Bell ray Thumper fully synth ester oil, its kinder to the sprag clutch apparently - tis what I use

But what ever you pick make sure its fully synth and you change it often

Is the sprag any worse than the DRZ?

Yes - much much worse, ask Harty how much! They are the Achilles heal of that model (I have one) and are what generally cause it not to start.

Sorry to sound like a dope but what is a sprag gear and how does it work? And is it for the electric start or the kick start or both? I'll stick with the full synthetic then eh? Cheers

Its for the starter - google gasgas 400/450 sprag clutch and see what you get! It may be why yours doesnt start on the button, But any big single 4 stroke deserves an ester fully synth oil
