East Devon Bimble

A last minute leave pass for this morning, saw Butty and myself heading out for a few hours in the local area.

Leaving the badlands of Chard at 9am, we heading southwest to encounter 193-022 & 001 under clearish skies.

After yesterdays rain, there was plenty of slippy mud, not helped by the fact my bike now weighs in more than 20kg than before, and running the summer tyre at 18psi certainly made things more interesting.hmm

Butty's nimble Pampera was floating over the muddy puddles, whilst I just rode through themsmile

Heading west took us 192-024 which still has an interesting exit, and then the bumpy tarmaced road which is 192-018.

Over the A30, and through the river at 192-013, which is considerably deeper then the last time I rode through it, keep left if you head north and it'll be fine!wink

A nice loop round via 192-238, 009 & 226 brough us back down 013 again. Butty stopped and pointed out some large tyre marks, covering ours from 10 mins before, and as we rounded the corner there were 5 or 6 4wd green laners, and they were just checking the river before passing no

Time for a quick coffee break whilst we said hello and let them move on ahead.

Quick pic - note use of hedge, sidestand is not to be trusted with the big tank on.cry

Due south took us to the byway which is 192-040, nice and slippy, and for once the dog didn't bark!

As we passed the north end of 192-295, we saw our 4wd friends again, queued up in the road, they were waiting for 2 of their group to reverse out of 295, having seen just how tight it can get.biggrinbiggrinbiggrin

North up 029, where I managed an unintended 180 degree turn, damn summer tyre (MT43), but managed to turn round and catch up with Butty.smile

192-041 was rocky and tight, and 042 nice and slippy. We headed down 044, but it's now much better heading uphill so we turned round, and rode up 044 and into 043 which can be easliy missed, but is a nice mud to stoney little lane.

Down 054 ( I know, much more fun up but I am still getting used to riding a fuel tanker) and a quick coffee break by the old carthorse bridge.

Headed north so we could ride 192-046 southwards (the best way to ride it IMHOsmile) and then onto 193-006 (005 is often used, but 006 is a nice steep little number and makes a nice change), then onto the always deep puddles of 193-021, and down the sweet little number that is 193-004.

We squeezed in 192-030 and 031, before heading homewards back towards 193-001 and 193-002, which took us back to the pressure washer.

3hrs riding, about 43 miles, and no rain!smile

30 lanes, and a good mix of terrain.

Nice report, thanks Nick.

It makes me almost wish that I had the nerve to sally forth, but my excuse is that it was persistently here for most of the day.

How many Newbies on that ride Nick?

 None, zero, zilch.

There was an engine being run in, and I was testing a whole new bike set up, to make sure it all worked fine for 2 days leading next weekend on A2E. Really didn't want anyone to feel let down if there were teething problems.

Now that Smeatharpe is done and dusted for a few months, there wil be plenty of East Devon runs coming soon for new members & potential members, so keep on eye out on the ride out section on herewink
