Anyone got any idea why it says TRF membership starts and finishes 12 months from the day you take it out and according to my card it still says 31st dec even though I waited a month to take the renewal cost away from the Xmas period
I wondered if my late renewal would take effect from the time my cheque was cashed because of this. In fact my membership was renewed as continuous from the date a fortnight earlier when it ran out.
I think it likely many people do forget to renew on time and wouldn't expect their membership to be viewed as lapsed because of a late payment.
A new member will face a renewal date 12 months on from whenever he first joins.

I believe unless you specifically specify you don't want a continued membership (even if you are late renewing) then the membership will continue from the date of your last expiry. I know I moaned about this once when I purposely delayed my membership to take it away from Christmas - mine has changed now but it obviously does cause the admin a bit of grief. So you can either cause some grief yourself or remember next year to specify you want it to run from end of Jan etc.
