Trail Riding in France

Has anyone done any of this?

A couple mates are getting the ferry from Plymouth to Roscoff to cycle South into France in a couple weeks time, i don't fancy pedalling myself so have been toying with the idea of going over on a proper bike and doing some trail riding, meeting up with them at campsites in the evenings.

I was wondering if anyone on here has any experience of trail riding over there, im trying to figure out whether there are likely to be enough trails around, and simple enough to find, to make the idea practical. Am also curious about the French attitude toward trail riding, are cheering locals going to be flinging warm croissants to me as i pootle past, or can i expect to meet angry mobs with pitchforks and torches?

The general direction of travel is going to be Roscoff heading south toward Bordeaux.
