Welcome on board Andy!

A 250 4-stroke with 6 gears is an excellent way to go biggrin

Don't forget the Yamaha TTR250 as an option. We have a very active forum here and some info in an FAQ here. Also lots of "How to" articles here.

Hi depends on budget as Brian said TTRs make excellent first green lanes I've had mine nearly two years and don't have any plans to swap. To my mind the important thing is to get a bike that is friendly to use and not scare the crap out of you. You seem to be looking at the right kind of bike!
250 is generally considered the right size. Electric start is nearly essential as are the right tyres.
Another thing is bear in mind what the bikes get used for, it's no use having something too clean and precious. It will get dropped, ridden through hedges etc and will not stay prestine if your using it right.
