Tyre Warming - Pre Changing

I've changed a fair few tyres now, mainly in the comforts of my own garage - and generally these days without adding a snake-bite or three to the inner-tube!

I've read many posts about warming new tyre first to aid fitment - and never really bothered giving it a second thought.

Last night, just before I removed Troys wheel to fit a new MX tyre, I stuck the new one on top of a nice hot radiator in the kitchen - much to her displeasure disbelief

Didnt expect any noticeable change as I collected the tyre 20 minutes later to fit - but wow what a difference in pliability of the carcass. Certainly made the job noticeable easier than usual -- obviously still enjoyed doing it about zero.

So the warming does work & a usueful tip that sunk in after reading about it on here regularly for the last 5 years biggrin "You can teach a new dog an old trick.............eventually"

So who's the new dog then? More like teaching an old dog old tricks. winkbiggrin

Makes perfect sense why this would work, can't belive you'd be so dismissing for all this time no

I had heard about that (& was reminded again at the excellent "Shared Knowledge Day" - devongtrf.activeboard.com/t58970747/shared-knowledge-day-register-your-interest-sunday-14th-dec-/)

So, last time, I left the tyre inside the car, which was just in sunlight
& left it there with the windows closed so nice & warm while I removed the old one -
certainly seems to have been easier.

It makes sense, thinking about the physics of it
though I'd only expected the difference to be marginal, every bit helps
