New Dealers in Paignton

Just like busses where you wait for ages and then two come along at the same time, two new bike-related businesses have opened in Paignton this week.

The first is 'Motorcycle Travel Shop (& MTS Rider Training)' who have relocated from Okehampton to Preston offering motorcycle clothing, parts and accessories aimed towards the touring and adventure rider. They also offer Motorcycle Training (including Trials riding experience days) and Motorcycle Hire with a nice selection of bikes to choose from. Stock of accessories is still being built up but they already have a range of helmets, clothing, luggage and accessories in their shop and are happy to order whatever is required all with a minimum 10% discount for TRF members on production of a current card!

The nice people to talk to are Chris and/or Rachel whose contact details are: 0800 009 6464 / 07805 202385

Websites:

Rider Training < www.mtsridertraining.co.uk >

Motorcycles 2 Hire < www.motorcycles2hire.co.uk >

Motorcycle Travel Shop < www.motorcycletravelshop.co.uk >

Trials Riding Experience < http://www.muddy-wheels.co.uk >

The second business (who, sadly, declined to offer TRF members a discount "at this time") is 'Jaccol Motorcycles' who relocated from Torquay to the larger old Birchall Marine premises in Preston.

They have sales of new and used bikes (they're Lexmoto dealers) plus offer servicing, repairs, spares and MOTs but also sell Raven clothing, Diora boots, Vcan helmets and Maxxis tyres.

The equally nice people to talk to are Colin Price and Jacqui Taylor on 01803 540081 or e-mail info@jaccolmotorcycles.co.uk. Their website is < www.jaccolmotorcycles.co.uk >

I have no connection or experience with either MTS or Jaccol other than to pay them a courtesy visit as I live nearby and suggest that to offer a TRF discount would tap into our 3,500 members and see an exponential growth in their businesses as the hordes of trail bikers flock through their doors.

Cheers,

John

To be honest that was what I think of them too but another bike mechanic and MOT centre for those of us in the area seemed welcome.

However, I've just had this terse e-mail from them:

Dear Mr Leah,

Thank you for your concerns and attention when you came in to speak with Jacqui yesterday. We have been trading for 5 years and have always been happy to extend discounted rates and services to regular customers however since we have yet to have any of your members as customers a discount was not offered. Perhaps if you and your members chose to support local shops and services without the need to pressurize them into discounting their services maybe there would be a wider choice of local services to visit.

Regards,

Colin,

Jaccol Motorcycles Ltd

Which rather disappointingly missed the point while the tone and ill-conceived logic makes it highly unlikely that I will trouble them again. TRF members are, of course, free to draw their own conclusions and act and spend their money accordingly.

I will be doing business with MTS though as they were far more receptive and worthy of our money.

Cheers,

John
