HPI by VIN Number

Anyone know if its possible to check a bikes history by VIM number if its not been road registered?

Done a google search and can find decoder which tells me year and manufacturer but not stolen or previously registered.

I don't know of one but it would be pretty sad and unforgivable if there wasn't.

IIRC at one point there were so many road bikes (I'm thinking RD350LCs but I'm sure there were others) being pinched and used on the racetrack scruitineers were being asked to check VINs against records of thefts - and that must have been over thirty years ago. OK they were already road registered but even if not when reporting a theft you'd use whatever unique identifiers available. Everything else in this country seems to be logged on a database how nice it would be that occasionally it was something that actually helped the proletariat smile

Cheers,

John
