We normally do a couple of 'Twin Shock' green lane weekends every year. Always helps as that's all I've got.
Never had an issue with them not being able to cope. Not ridden a Banty on the lanes though. I am sure they are capable, just that I don't have one !
I think it's waaay more fun on an older bike.

We had a good laugh greenlaning locally on a c90 and a suzuki van van.

I miss riding a classic bike and have been a bit tempted by a BSA bantam as practical (cheap) classic runaround, i thought i trials modded one might also cope with some greenlanes and the odd classic trial

 

I wonder how well such a bike would keep up with your average TRF run turnout?

 Hi Albert, I'm restoring an old 1971 BSA B25T Victor with the intention of using it for greenlaning, once I've gathered all the right parts I'll post up the rebuild to give you some encouragement.

It would be good to get a few of the old skool bikes out and about, not sure if you have to start smoking a pipe though...perhaps TRF marketing have got some for sale

Ive had a look at various classic trials videos, and they seem to handle some pretty rough terrain so i reckon it can be fairly practical

Im hoping the super basic design of the bantams and the fact they sold a huge number will mean it wont cost the earth to keep it running through such abuse

Apparently a Bantam gets around 120mpg too which will be quite unique among the 2 smoke greenlaning fraternity, but in fairness it only produces 10hp with it.

Well i feel suitably encouraged, thanks gents. Not sure about the pipe smoking but i think i could live with a flat cap and barbour jacket combo, the beard i already have.

My greenlaning bike is a 77 Yam IT 400, and once I get it running will be joined by a Norton 500, a bantam wil do fine but go for a 175 4 speed. I had a 150 3 speed ( my first bike!) and there was a big gap in the gearing between 2nd and 3rd.

I used to use a remotely (barely) controlled road legal cr250.

 

If anyone fancies green laning on a classic Suzuki or doing a spot of twin shock racing then Olly's PE250 is still for sale - see here

I know of a couple of guys who green lane on heavily modified Trumpet 5TAs. They seem to have covered most of the lanes in the S Hams with them ! I had some pics somewhere but can't lay my hands on them right now......  One of them is about 30 and the other about 70 and not a pipe in sight !

I've found a couple of the pics. The bike has a 3TA bottom end with 500 top end. Trailwing type tyres   and has ridden much of the South Hams lanes. The rider is a hero !!
