Irish Ferry Advice

Off to Ireland trail riding in Feb. Does anyone have any tips for getting cheap ferry crossing ?  Pembroke to Rosslare.

Looked on the web and will cost £270 for a pick up with bikes in the back (no trailer) and 2 passengers, is this about right?

Cheers

Steve

I used that crossing by bike three years ago. It cost a reasonable £104 return but forgot to claim my 10% BMW Club membership discount with Irish Ferries. I believed the TRF have some agreed discounts but I don't know if it extends to IF and the 'new' website seems unwilling to display a 'member services' page. Maybe there aren't any anymore. Or m,aybe it's down to the groups to arrange them. Daft if it is!

Several members have taken trail bikes over there and can give advice of what to do and where to go when there. All I'd say is don't rush the journey up as it takes a lot longer than you may imagine; it's a quick blast up to the bridge but then it seems to take forever through South Wales and the motorway and bridge can get very busy at times.

Enjoy the trip but be on the lookout for Americans 'looking for their roots! - they were everywhere! smile

Cheers,

John

Ollie, myself and a few others over many years have used Fishguard to Rosslare but best by a country mile was Swansea to Cork.
We used to go Stenna plus, only £10 extra or thereabouts, meant you had a decent seat you can stretch out in and unlimited coffee etc etc.
You save the worst bit of the "end of the M4 on", can be trail riding in Kenmare within 2 hours of landing and dont lose a day travelling across S Eire.
They did cancel it for a few years but I think it has been restarted.
We did a tally up and it won hands down - check it out.
Steve, speak to Brian, I think he has got a route recorded from his and Ollies last trip.
"The old Colley road", now that is a lane, an old butter road - let me know if you find it - if you cant then you will have to take me next time!! Tee hee.
