RIP Olly Cooke

T2T recce with Olly 9 October 2008 012.jpg

Our dear friend and TRF stalwart Oliver Cooke passed away peacefully today after a very long battle with cancer.

When the doctor's gave him 3 days to live he turned it into 15 weeks, when they gave him 3 hours he turned it into nearly 4 days.

He was always a tough Enduro competitor, and now we can see why.

Olly has entertained many new members to their first trail ride and played a leading role in inaugurating the prestigious Axe-to-Exe event.

He will be sorely missed by all who knew him.

Our thoughts are with his partner Jane and his family at this time.

Brian

RIP Olly. Can't honestly say I knew him that well but I know he did a lot for the club. A sad loss. My thoughts to go to his partner and his friends/family.

Only rode with Olly once, but had a good yap with him many a time. He was someone that I Looked up to in DTRF. When I joined and started to get involved in trail riding he made me feel more than welcome. Told some very good stories and liked a laugh.

He was liked and loved by many and will be missed by all who knew himcrycrycry

We've lost one of the nicest blokes Ive had the privilege to be friends with.
He was one of the small handful of Trailriders who created the Devon group and the only one of those few who remained involved and active until his health eventually failed him recently.

Over the years he helped several aspiring young enduro riders to realise their true potential,
invented the knuckleduster to protect our delicate little hands,
almost singlehandedly created major enduro events with the West of England club
and assisted so many, in so many ways .........

Gonna miss you mate.

Very sad news - I will never forget being at Smeatharpe with Gruff 'marshalling' the drop into the bottom of the woods, most were pushing down and several of those that tried to ride ended up in a heap (Steve PT in a big heap of blue plastic) - then along came this WR that just 'floated' down like a ballet dancer on 2 wheels wink that was Ollie.....

Sorry to hear the news, condolences to family and freinds.. The "Ollie" sounds like a good way to remember all the time and effort Ollie put into our club/sport.

On top of a mountain!

Ireland 2013

Wacky "Why are we here Olly"

Olly "Never been up here before and saw it on the map"

Wacky "How do you get up the mountain?"

Olly "Anyway you can find mate"

Wacky "Oh!!"

There was 4 people and us at the top, all very pleasant until the rambler turned up bleh

Olly sweet talked him around as to why we shouldn't be up here on a motorcycle, hence the guy moved on feeling better now he's been educated by the one and only smile

One trail riding expirence i'll never forget from a legend who's known as Olly (mountain goat of Ireland, never seen him ride like that before)

R.I.P.

So saddened to hear this.

To me Olly represents everything that's good about Devon TRF and trail riding in general a thoroughly decent man who will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him.

Just an early mention that Olly asked his partner Jane if she could arrange for a bike procession to follow the hearse - probably from Exmouth to Exeter. If you guys can think about joining in that would be great!

Venue, date and times to follow.

Brian

I regret that I only met Ollie once and briefly but his legend went before him. He is and should be an inspiration to us DTRF members for what we ought to be able to offer to the TRF cause.

My condolences to his family.

RIP

Rest in peace Olly,  One of the nicest people I have had the pleasure to meet. Always friendly, enthusiastic and helpful and a great ambassador for trail riding. I will miss chewing the fat over a cup of tea at TTR towers or Cap'n Paul's with him

Can someone please let me know when the funeral will be, and I will get the tractor out of winter hibernation in his honour

many condolences to his friends and family,

I think Ollie would have quite liked that the  DTRFG events officer is coordinating the bike procession  biggrin

Cheers Chris.

10.45 am on 30th December at the Exeter Crematorium is a possibility. Jane is checking with family and close friends to see if this is OK and I will let you know if it is confirmed.

The procession will be from Exmouth - gathering point and timings to be confirmed by our Events Coordinator biggrinbiggrinbiggrin if and when confirmed.

Just had a text from Jane.

"The funeral has been confirmed for Wednesday 30th December leaving the house in Drakes Avenue, Exmouth, at 10 am and  Exeter  Crematorium for 10.45. Can you post it forum please so everyone knows.

Family flowers only. Donations to National Lifeboat and Marie Curie collection on the day or to Crews Funeral Directors direct. Black attire optional - colour welcome!"

(Crews and Son Funeral Directors, Crews House, 16 Tower Street, Exmouth, Devon EX8 1NT. Phone:01395 225522)
Let's see if we can get a good turnout of bikes as I am sure Olly will be watching proceedings!
Please let any of your biking friends not on the forum know. Olly had an interest in vintage bikes and knew a lot of the clan but I don't have any contacts for them.
Brian

Jane has generously laid on refreshments after the funeral service at the Puffing Billy in Exton.

Plenty of off and on road parking there.

And you can let off steam by riding Muddy Lane on your way home - about a minute from the pub biggrinbiggrinbiggrin
