wanted- lightweight bike

Anyone out there got a Beta alp, serrow, little xt they are considering selling.

I have a Beta 450 and have entered the taffy Dakar but unfortunately the bike doesnt qualify. Im now on the hunt for a small lightweight (maybe with a trials bias) to add to the stable and get me round the taffy . Probably 250 or smaller but open to anything at this stage.

anything outthere- cash waiting for the right bike

Mike

Hi Mike

there will be a bit of road work up there, so suggest a 250 would be a good choice. Saying that serrow is a capable bikesmile

Hope that is of any help.

Steve

I did the Taffy on a DRZ400s ideal bike. Tigerman used his DRZ400s twice I think.

I did it on a 450 EXC, but had to put a 28L tank on it to make it "big bike"!

TBH i dont have a lot of personal experience of them, but im not sure the weight savings of a serow versus a ttr250 is worth it unless the height of it is an issue, i believe the ttr has much better adjustable cartridge suspension a flatslide pumper carb and a DOHC putting out 28hp to the serows 15hp so would be a completly different animal. Dry they are listed at 108kg for the Serow and 113kg for the TTR

there was a nice looking ttr for sale on this forum for £1500 recently, not sure if it sold or not

There is a TTR for sale locally (Crediton) - see http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2003-YAMAHA-TTR-250-BLUE-GOOD-CONDITION-LOW-MILEAGE-/222019476308

Dual start (kicker and electric) - decent range (about 100 miles) on a tankful - parts and accessories easily obtainable - low maintenance, reliable, air-cooled four stroke - a classic trail bike biggrinbiggrin

Speedo is usually a simple fix - just a new 3-tab washer needed in the drive gear.

TTRs have quite a following and hold their value well.

Busy forum here and one of a few Facebook pages here

Several TTR owners in the Devon TRF Group and on this forum wink

Another TTR going very cheap (Wimborne so not far away!) here http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/182016993689

I think the seller isn't getting a great deal of interest as most prospective owners search for TTR250 and he hasn't included that in his ad's title no

Would have offered my husky 310, but I guess it would be the same 'enduro' story!

Ive bought myself a freeride 350- different from my current bike and nice n light.  Not featured as an enduro on the main KTM website but has its own category. Sadly Taffy dakar still regard this as a full blown enduro bike and wont let it in!!!!!!!.

So- after all this fuss and bother Im keeping the freeride and have  handed back my Dakar ticket for a refund.

I was looking forward to it and hope the Devon possie have a cracker of a time-

Dont forget some movie clips

Thats a real shame I would have thought a Freeride would have been fine but obviously not for the Taffy and if you are buying a bike its for longer term. However its only one event and the more long term fun will pay off as they look a superb bike just what you need. Im looking forward to see it on a ride.

calling a freeride a full on enduro is pretty nuts :/

Still, as Mike says great bike so im sure you will be glad in the long term

every cloud and all that.

Standing them next to each other the steering angle on the KTM is much steeper than the BETA.  That should make it handy in the woods n tight stuff. It seems to have a nice gentle power delivery and the lightest clutch I have ever pulled. -  havent ridden it in the lanes yet -soon see..little bit of fettling to do.

One thing- the brakes are formula and very light and tiny- tricky little "bleeders" so to speak- they need all the air out to work well- reverse bleeding and moving the master cylinder all about seems to do the trick.

I will be out on it soon once it is taxed and I have done my "waterproofing" of everything.

Welcome to the Freeride 350 fold, I'm sure you will enjoy it as much as I have enjoyed mine.

I certainly wouldn't call it an enduro bike although you could probably put in a credible performance in a competition because it is so easy to ride and you would dominate the bike rather than the other way round wink

Enjoy !

Sorry to hijack the thread, I bought a KTM 350 Sump guard on eBay for 30 quid nearly  brand new in the hope that it would fit my 250 Freeride it doesn't. So if anyone is interested in a 350 (power part I think) KTM Sump gaurd for 30 quid let me know.
