Run leaders requested 6th & 7th July

Martin Welstead, mwellsted968@gmail.com , is organising a long distance trail ride for charity , see below :

Take a look at https://biketoursforthewounded.co.uk/tours/2017-byway-tour

The tour runs from 2nd July in Folkstone to the 9th July in Cheddar. On the 5th we will leave Salisbury to head to Charmouth. The 6th we head for Dartmouth and on the 7th head up to the Tein Valley

He is looking for run leaders/helpers for the 6th and 7th July. I have already provided route guidance for the 7th, between Dartmouth and Crediton,  and will help on that day. More help is apparently needed as there are several groups making the trip. Help and routes are required for the 6th.

If you can help please contact Martin directly to the email above.

David

The link does not work. Yet another collection made out of pity for people who chose to go to war and got what they were hoping to dish out?

I wonder how charitable they really are? Have they offered anything in return?

Several groups riding the same area at the same time does us no favours and may cause friction with locals, particularly later when the route is shared. I will avoid the area on that day.

Just tried it and the link works for me. It also explains who they are and the purpose of the event. It is up to the individual to decide how worthy the cause is and whether they want to get involved....

I ride our lanes regularly and it is rare to meet another biker, or horse or hiker so I hardly think the lanes are overused. The impact of several groups of 6 riders in one day travelling through the area is probably less than that created by the A2E.

The lanes are public roads and there to be used.

I think you will find that most who join the armed forces do so to defend our country and to assist globally where needed for the greater good.  The soldiers and forces on the ground DO NOT choose to go to war, that's the government who decided that.   IE WAR CRIMINAL TONY BLAIR, who you no doubt voted for.

Unfortunately they have been dragged into wars, conflicts and peace keeping operations that most did not want, but as loyal soldiers they followed their orders without question to help those less fortunate than us.  No soldier goes out hoping to kill or maim people but more to HELP people.

As a result they have lost limbs and been injured fighting for a cause they probably didn't want to get involved in. And many have lost their lives.    You might as well have written, sod them they got what they deserved.

Your comment is disgusting, highly offensive and derogatory. You should be ashamed.

Thankfully you are a minority and most people respect our armed forces and the job they do for a pittance of pay and are more than happy to help those out who are trying to raise a few quid to make their lives a bit more normal.

As for a couple of groups using a few lanes,  so what.  They are public roads and if anyone choses to lead a group of 100 riders down them they are doing nothing wrong.

I need to bite my tounge on this one and will simply say everybody is entitled to an opinion but Pete those comments are very out of order. My brother is ex army and my 16 year old son wants to join. It is a professional career and this country would not exist as it is today had we not had a strong military backing. My brother never chose to go to the places he has been - it was often to protect the normal civilisation of another country. He wasn't there to blow up others limbs or to hide explosives under roadways. He has lost good colleagues and seen many injured. I can only echo Smokins comments above.

Well said wheely , Cant think of anything worse that losing a family member or them losing limbs . It really upset me one day when I had a pub a couple of years ago a couple were eating and he had lost both lower arms and either one or two legs , he really struggled to eat and I didn't want to react , but it was so hard for him.I treated him like any customer but often remember him. I also dated someone with less of a disability but it still causes a lot of problems with daily life, i can only admire people who can pick themselves up after that, it must be so so hard .We used to live by RAF lyneham , and dreaded planes coming home with more lost soldiers. It wasn't that long ago our grandfathers / family members were sent to war ..
