Can anyone recommend some decent waterproof overboot trousers for the winter.

I have some rfx pants that have been ok but they have sown panels everywhere and the stitching is forever wearing through. Waterproofing is a bit suspect now causing pretty wet jewels.

Also trousers that dont melt first time out might help

Army goretex waterproof over trouser

Buy big enough to fit knee protection underneath.

At only £20 it isn't such a big deal when the inevitable happens and it gets torn. Proper Goretex does not melt.

The Gore Tex (Teflon, PTFE, whatever you want to call it) has a very high melting point, but it is only a layer either lining or covering another fabric.

As ex-military with a fair bit of time spent wearing the stuff, I can confirm that given the right (wrong?) circumstances, military Gore Tex certainly DOES melt.

On a different, but connected, note - the newer MTP (multicam) pattern military stuff is much lighter weight than the older 'cabbage kit' jungle pattern. It tears and wears through much more easily, it also quickly loses it's waterproofing where abraded by, for instance, rucksack straps.

Bottom line, if you're not concerned about military fashion, you're far better off buying the older stuff.

They laugh at me but my fireman sam outfit is fantastic for keeping me warm and dry out on the trails
Ok a bit too warm when its above 10-12c but Ive been with hard core rtiders in Wales with all the expensive Klim gear who wanted to get down off the hill cos the rain was driving through and they were getting cold. I was genuinly happy to stay up high and continue riding
The knee area on the fireman sam trousers is a 20 layer build up so you can crawl across hot floors and I do not use additional kneepads.

The trouser fits over my  MX boots and will deflect the nastiest thorn bush.

All the Bristol stuff is the highest spec and gore tex lined ............
