If you haven't already get yourselves down to the doctors and get your Prostate checked. It is one of the most common cancers in men

I am 60 and completely symptom free but went for a simple MOT at the doctors.

 

The DRE (Digital rectal examination- finger up the ********) was initially inconclusive but a quick blood test showed a raised PSA (Prostate specific antogen) level .

 

MRI Scan shows I have a cancer but it  is contained in the prostate and hasnt yet spread (which is great news). I am currently awaiting the results of the biopsy (not much fun but necessary) to determine the cancers nature (whether it is aggressive or not).

I might be one of the lucky ones who have caught it early enough to be treated.

IT only takes a quick call to the doctors- a blood test and friendly finger to determine if you are ok

Do it now- make it one of your new years resolutions- dont wait until its too late

Hope it turns out OK for you Mike!

There are two main types of biopsy:

  • a trans-rectal ultrasound (TRUS) guided biopsy, where the needle goes through the wall of the back passage
  • a template (transperineal) biopsy, where the needle goes through the skin between the testicles and the back passage.

If you get the choice go for the second type - don't ask why I say this disbelief

Hope it turns out the friendly type,

one can do the rectal exam oneself if you know where to press,after a finger insertion..
best done in the bath though and a warm environment...

I had the first type of biopsy!
One in 2000 gets Sepsis from the procedure.
Usually Im a bit jammy in life but I s**t out that time.
10 days in hospital with Sepsis - No, aint a holiday!
That apart, the removal is a really interesting procedure, genuinely fascinating.
I owe my life to Dr Guy Bradley Smith and the collective NHS.
So, Best of Luck, it isnt bad as it first appears.
I had my PSA results yesterday again, all clear again.

Thanks all for the best wishes much appreciated

Already had the TRUS guided biopsy- smarts a bit but generally ok- just waiting for the results fingers crossed.

If you havent already- ring the doc tomorrow-

(PS careful sharing a hot tub with crumblesbiggrinbiggrinbiggrinbiggrinbiggrinbiggrin)
