Forum technical issues

Hi all,

New users trying to register on the forum are blocked by a token issue. cry

I have reported this issue with tech support at Activeboard, as we pay so little for using this forum we might be low down in the que.

They have responded to my support tickets.

Doug

for forum admin

Doug, have you also reported/are you aware, that the forum search function no longer works?

I wonder what is wrong my end then, because I cannot get results on my laptop using Chrome, or on Android.

Ok another issue for the support team, I think this old (good that it is) forum is now beyond its sell by date.

If we need to think about an upgrade Doug let's do it.

Is it possible to upgrade what we currently use to get a better service, help and support.

Yes we could upgrade depends if the group wishes to pay. It will not sort the technical issues any quicker as we are not the only forum with these issues !

Update from active board via email.

Hi Devon,

This is a known issue that we will be looking to correct once our devs are back in office after the Holidays, but there is currently no deadline or date of expected fix for this just yet.

As soon as I have more information for you, I will reach out.

Cheers,

Marcus

Frustrating for sure Doug

Any options to migrate the forum to another host?

Unfortunately we cannot migrate the topic's content otherwise it would be something I would look into.

There latest reply:

Hi there,

Due to the holiday season as well as prioritizing our other products, we have not been able to correct this issue just yet.

Our devs are aware of this issue. As soon as they are able to dive into this to correct the issue, I will reach out with more information.

I apologize for the delays.

Cheers,

Marcus

Still no progress.

I have asked support for a contact to complain, rubbish support.

Hi there,

I can definitely understand your frustrations and I apologize for the delay on this.

We're currently waiting for our developers to get back to us with an estimated timeline for when we can expect this issue to be corrected.

As soon as I have more information, I will reach out.

hi doug,

Do the tech issues also cover off access to private areas or is that seperate. Still can't see lane clearing for instance.

Yes, we have two technical issues.

1. No new users can register

2. As admin I cannot give access to private topics.

As a work around, could you re-assign long term inactive accounts to new users?

In relation to the forum 'search' function only, thanks to Rob Drake for this info,

just type a space before you type the word you are searching the forum for.

This works for me

I could, but cannot see who has the relevant permissions, plus I might be breaking some data protection laws.

What private topics are you on about Doug "Members only" section?

Yes essentially you can but all the posts the previous owner had entered on the site will become under the new owners name unless you fancy deleting those posts wink

Might be able to centrally delete all the posts of the user (have completed that task yet)

Don't think its ethical to take over a dormant or not active 'user' could be like the film the "Body snatchers" biggrinbiggrinbiggrin

Some great ideas tho smile

If you look at the user list there are plenty that joined up to 10 years ago, didn't post anything and haven't been back since.
You can change the username, password & email and then assign it to a new member.
Even as a Mod you can do that without needing Admin privileges.

I don't see there being any GDPR issues with that as it's the same as just deleting an old/unused account, you're just reusing their database slot.

I can only do that for new users, if a user has been on the forum as a non trf member for some time they might not be happy with not seeing their old posts ?

My suggestion was just a way to give a new forum user an account so they can post. This won't help with changing the access privileges of an existing user.

Correct, there has been no new correspondence from Activeboard, I think they might be in financial trouble.
