Hi all, my mate and I are planning to ride the TET down to lands end on the south coast then return along the north coast using the route as much as possible.

my questio is, how do I put that route on to my iPhone or a satnav someone can recommend for our bikes please?

many thanks in anticipation.

Hi Ed

That's a big question actually.
It's more about what app you run and not about the phone.
However iPhones (& some Android) phones tend to not like being bar mounted as the vibration can kill the camera.

For dirt duty I currently have a cheap rugged Android phone (BV6900) and I bar mount that with a holder I bought on AliExpress.

Apps - I use OsmAnd for road and Alpine Quest for dirt as it can use my old MemoryMap OS maps.

I also have a Garmin Montana that I use for road trips but could also use that for dirt duty.

With either of those it's a simple task to drop the .gpx route file on to the phones and have them display it.

You'll need a mapping app on your phone, there are many around, I probably don't know them all, but they all offer something slightly different. You can easily open the GWT route from the TET app in your chosen mapping app.

Alpine Quest Off-road Explorer is a one-off £12.99 and there are various free maps you can use, and it allows you to use older (and free maps from a friendly TRF member) qct Memory Map OS maps. Although they will be slightly out of date.

Outdoor active, who took over View Ranger, is free with basic maps, or there are subscriptions for the Pro £26.99 per annum & Pro+ £53.99 pa if you want OS maps or additional features. The app has loads features and other peoples routes of different kinds to offer.

I use Memory Map on my laptop and the 'Memory Map for All' app on my android phone. The phone I use for navigating is a sim free old phone that I don't use the camera on, having previously damaged a phone's focus by mounting it on a non anti vibration mount. MM is either a single payment for an OS map you keep, or a subscription for up-to-date annual maps.

You can display the groups lanes overlays, available from John Leah, on all the apps I've mentioned.

There will usually be someone at each meeting with their phone to demonstrate their mapping app.

Seems I gave out duff info there Tim. It's years since I tried OutdoorActive when ViewRanger stopped, I had a brief few months with Alpine Quest but then returned to memory Map.

I had a look at the thread here and it reminded me why I stuck with Memory Map!

I read somewhere recently that the TET App has been removed from the Android PlayStore (it was never available on Apples App store). I checked amd the information was correct, it's no longer available to download as an App ...... but you can apparently still access it via Google and go about gaining access to the various TET routes that way.

Hi guys
Have just seen this post. John Leah has just kindly sent me the Devon overlays. I am having great trouble getting these on my memory maps for all. I have this app on an android samsung galaxy tablet. Works well for route planning and I can pick my routes up on an old Iphone 7. I cannot however get the devon lanes overlay from John on the app. His info suggests drag and drop to the tool bar of MMA. How do I do that?
I have tried the import function and navigating to the mmo file. The MMA app doesn't recognise the file which seems to have an mmfa extension when extracted from the zip file. I can't get the MMA on my laptop as it is provided by my employer and their IT boffins get all unecessary about some downloads.
Any advice gratefully received.
Regards to all
Andy

Andy,

The 'drag and drop' method works for Memory Map on a desktop computer but I haven't tested how to load the overlay into Memory Map for All. Ray (Tribey) who uses MMA will be able to advise.

Cheers,
John
