Thanks mate, only one short section completed, unfortunately tons more to do
Never mind, the locals that walked up through (young family of four) had heard of the wonderful volunteering that the Devon TRF had completed before, thanked us this time as well
To be honest there is only one digger track that moved, that was the lonely one half way up the green road, just before Jacks hand written sign.
The stream section we would like motor cycles to ride needs a tweak but the M. cycles are riding the bank
All the works previously completed by those wonderful volunteers is holding up really well (apart from the one digger track mentioned)
The main point is Wacky's plan is working
There is one sleeper (one we didn't replace or alter) rotted out, snapped, can't find one half this now leaves a wide river crossing the locals have to traverse, not good, planning in progress
You can see in most places where the storm water has washed over to the full width of the green road, scary amount of storm water, plenty of tree roots exposed on the main drag right up through even where they weren't exposed before..
It's in desperate need of a foliage cut....new sleeper, tons & tons of gravel/stone needs pushing around & used for building platforms for sleeper/s
One Ash tree we left on one of the early sleeper crossings is causing you to lean out past it, tree getting bigger in diameter? then I though that could also be my expanding belly, need a second opinion...I'll ask barky
All in all i've taken on a big project with an effective plan, its working...
A MASSIVE thanks to all those Devon TRF volunteers who worked/volunteered on this project for well over 2 yrs is amazing, without that help I truly believe the surface of this green road would have been lost, washed away, gone, closed, TTRO'd for sure, locals would have been moaning & blaming motor cycle use.
So...special thanks to Devon TRF volunteers in the past, present, future, you've helped save a superb green road..
More works completed on 'Ham lane' yesterday evening, 3 hours in all, a HUGE privilege to volunteer along side these guys, they work like Trojans, deepest respect
Volunteering works competed -
More in-fill to a digger track, buckets of stone inserted into & behind, more weld mesh added
Unearthing an old sleeper (not one we put in) from the steam, washed down
Re worked the slope out from the stream, in- fill material building up the surface
Re arranged the concrete slabs that are in the stream, lying in an awkward position
Re-working the Devon shovel so I could have better capacity for digging, nice to have friends
Another digger track re filled after the winter storms
Surface re-worked and restored
Erosion taking place nicely, opposite the digger tracks & other places on the streams outside bend
The lovely gully re filled on the exit/entrance of the stream
Re-worked the concrete in the stream to make a more rideable route
Two lumps of concrete rearranged in the stream, they were sticking up on there edge
Stream gully re-filled
Adding more weld mesh to the already successful digger tracks
we (only 3 of us) took out one digger track that was whole then 2 lengths of tracks that were cut, the guys worked their magic and slipped in the cut digger tracks in behind the sleeper on the up stream side.
they used road pins or re-bar and drove them in to support the cut length of digger track, this will help support the bank or the abutments to the sleeper bridge.
We spent some time digging out stone & used some finings to cover the path section along with raising this section (slightly)
I'll be heading out there again next Tuesday evening 30/6/26. vegetation clearance is on the cards plus I'll be taking out some more digger tracks.
