OOch...

Did this last week, starting to look all colourful. Goes from just below my knee to my ankle, most painful mid shin. not broken just a hard squeeze I think.

Just goes to show badgers can bite hard from time to time.

Not sure exactly how I did it as wasn't painful at the time but I think I caught it between the bike and a rocky bank.  I had several badgers that day.

Had to look after my kids this weekend so an enforced rest anyway.

Back on the bike next weekend hopefully wink

Cor, have you got a colour licence for that? wink

Amazed that it didn't hurt at the time.

You must be careful of badgers when out and about. hmm

There are bigger 'badger' animals in other countries - so beware on your RTW trip.

Well the leg has been getting worse.

Turns out I have chipped the bone. I have a piece of bone floating in front of my shin. No treatment except compression, hot and cold compresses for circulation and keep moving it.

I think this was caused by my boots shin armour digging in to me during a crash. Oh well life goes on.

Its a bit painful to touch but fine to walk on and get about etc. Funny thing is where the injury actually is there is no bruising just an egg shaped soft bit under the skin that hurts like hell when pressed.

Gentle riding only. Time to dust off the road bike?

Yesterday as I was strapping on my knee armour I noticed it was broken on the lower section. I use the UFO articulating knee armour which I tuck the lower section into  my boot. I also notice the end of the armour contacts my leg exactly where the damage to my leg is. This is defiantly what has damaged my shin.

Not sure I want to use this type of armour again. I was thinking of a knee pad in my trousers that stays clear of my boot.

What does everyone else use?

Are MX trousers any good?

MX trousers are thinner below the knee - but I only wear mine in the summer due to them not being very wind / rain proof.

It is concerning as I have the same style of armour. What boots were you wearing?

I have Wulf trail boots. They are well armoured on the front, so it has to be the armour inside the boot that has dug in.

Can you put padding in the knee of MX trousers? do they have a pocket?

Normally elasticated over the knee to allow to stretch over the knee pad, have't seen any with pockets... Not saying they aren't available!

Tigerman: Call that swollen. Now this is what I call a swelling!!!!

07C4150.JPG

Actually to be fair it's not all swelling, as 3 weeks after the accident they finally decided to drain the fluid (mostly blood) - 1.5 litres of it. Felt a bit more comfortable after that.

My guess is something would have happened whatever you were wearing it's all about physics, the force has to go somewhere. Its like skiers, used to break their ankles all the time but now they have rigid boots it their knees that go.

Hope it gets better soon anyway!

Well it's been a while since I damaged the leg. It still is pretty sore to the touch and if the little lad jumps on it, it's is agony. I have also had to modify the knee armour I wear to keep it off the golf ball size swelling on my shin.

Went to the doctors today as I'm thinking it should have healed by now?

The doctor tells me I have a periostial bruise. Which is bleeding that has occurred from the bone and it's filled a potential space between the bone and its covering. It can take many months to heal so be patient she says.

I know that without leg armour and good boots it would have been much worse but I no longer will wear armour that goes inside my boot as Im sure the bottom of that armour dug into my leg and did the damage.  The area where I hit my leg is fine, but the end of the armour actually broke on my leg, not at the impact site.

food for thought blankstare

I always tuck mine into my boot and have never had an issue.

I fact I also tuck my trousers into my boots as well so there is even more padding between my leg and the boot. Maybe it was the boots which are not tough enough, or maybe you were just unlucky in that you took a hard knock in a weak spot?

TBH those trail boot don't look to have as much protection as MX boots.

I bet there not nearly uncomfortable enough.biggrin

I bought these from CMS.

They are soft at the back and no hard plastic is present. They seem really comfortable.

Will find out tomorrow.

Well the knee armour seemed to be comfortabe enough. I didnt test it as no badgers were around the other day, but my leg has swollen and gone black and blue again,  some blood has leaked from the bone and deeper tissues to the surface and it looks horrible and is quite sore again.

Went back to the docs and she says rest until its completely healed so I guess no more lanes for a bit. no
