Renewal time, I get a renewal letter, a years NCB and 3 points higher than last year, same price as last year.
So I go onto compare the Meerkats, they are more expensive, I try confused.com, they are £70 cheaper with the same insurer.
I ring the insurer, was told that she cannot match the online discount that her company has offered!
She then tells me that I get free breakdown cover when I renew, but only if I renew online.
Then I try to renew online, all is well, until is asks me to confirm that I have a fully functioning keyed ignition. Surely ther database shoudl tell them that the EXC does not have such a luxury.
This wasn't an issue last year. So now I have to ring back, pay them more money and not get the breakdown cover (not that I need it on a KTM)
Rant over.
Plus side is I have a £25.00 discount code for any friends who ring up for a quote, but it will be cheaper online.

Surprise surprise, just rung Carole Nash to renew my insurance and they are only happy to renew my XR400 third party only. I did point out that last year it wasn't a problem them insuring both my SP1 and XR fully comp, but it now seems all the insurers are changing their minds.....
why don't you fit an ignition switch - should be able to get one cheap enough on fleabay.
Interestingly enough this has been their policy for some time now, so I asked for some of my money back from last years premium as it wasn't covered by theft (policy was for TPFT), now it appears that the bike doesn't need a "working ignition switch"!
Been on the phone to a helpful guy, will match the online price and give me the free breakdown cover which I didn't really want as I have 2 different covers already ( 1 from the bank and 1 from work).
Maybe this guys want the business a bit more than his colleague did!

Ebike all the way, i wouldn't even bother with any mainstream "on the telly" type brokers, the meerket adds are very cute but know who ends up paying for them!!
Is the ignition swtich to do with security? I have no ingition switch but have a seperate steering lock that uses a key.

It was small print on their website which they confirmed before back-tracking. This was for the "theft" part of TPFT.
Having just gone through the same process, MCE state
"You must keep your vehicle and its keys safe at all times for a claim to be valid. When leaving your vehicle at any time you must ALWAYS ensure it is safe, the steering lock is engaged and the vehicle keys are removed. Failure to remove your keys and lock your motorcycle may result in a claim for theft being refused."
So no mention of an ignition key. I'm just waiting for them to phone back about the 350cc kit on the 250 EXC. You can select "overbored engine" from the mods list, but if you try and put it as a 350 then the model disappears from the dropdown.
I want to be covered to ride other bikes, sometimes you want a go on a mates bike, on the lanes or at one of our events. E bike doesn't cover you for this so I won't use them.
My re-newal is due soon & i'm having difficulty getting other bikes & pillion cover for my TTR. It's available but i've only managed to get it down to £118 so far, it was £89 last year.
Without pillion & other bikes i've been quoted as low as £68

I have the 05 525MXC and the 05 250EXC 2t on the same policy with legal expence cover and uninsured loss and any bike not owned by me 3rd party and liability insurance for events/private land for £102.28 pa...
But .....
I am a good risk (according to them) not had an "at fault accident" and I am a pedantic old git when it comes to bike security... and had every bike cource there is for road use... and training not available to the public....
Didn't stop me being knocked off though...
