JT had one and SteveGT has one. From what I gather, same as the other very good TTR's but with a better headlight and a larger fuel capacity

No.They're not great but not ****e

A rally raid is nothing special. Unless you are very competent rider you want the blue TTR or a KTM 400.  If you have tendencies toward the open moors of the Bronte sisters you need a CRF.

If you're not a competent rider you want a KTM with more power than you think you can handle, fans recognise they are light of touch and forgiving: unlike catsbiggrin

 Yep - my 1st Traillie....smile

Good old bike - brill headlight! - non adjustable rear shock, big tank, rear rack, good road/not to technical lane bike and I miss it and would like to have kept for longer trips, however - could not have kept as my only lane bike as TBH it was to dammed heavy (top heavy) for the more nadgery stuff and was a bugger to lift out if I got it stuck if alone........

Great trail bikes - lots of cheap spares available for them.

Quite a few around. Very popular in Russia for some reason confuse

Potentially cheap one in North Devon - see http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220882051357&category=9809&_trksid=p5197.c0.m619#ht_559wt_1185

Seller lives in Burrington of all places! Do you think he's flogging it due to pressure from the parish council? smilesmilesmile

Cheers,

You guys got access to my ebay history! this is the one that prompted these questions, fella seems nice, looks interesting and a potential. The other one I was looking at was an XR 250 nr Barnstable also on the bay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1999-HONDA-XR250R-WHITE-extras-/290617889378?pt=UK_Motorcycles&hash=item43aa2d1262

I have a budget of 1100 which aint great, and can't grow so which of these two is the best (JT you have seen me ride/ swim!)

And what should the Yam go upto and still be a bargain?

I would want a bigger tank on the XR and might have access to one if I pull my finger out, but the Yam already has 16lt!

My CCM should get swapped for a pile of cash on Tuesday and so getting itchy fingers already.

Comments and experiences very welcome (and appreciated)

Seen this one - been a few in the DTRF and they have been good old machines.....

But of all the bikes in that price range I can see for sale at the moment my personal choice no question would be this one and even though I'm not looking and already have a bike if I had a grand or so to spare I'd have it......may have to take the graphics off though bleh

Personally I'd go with the TTR, as they are a doddle to fix and you have a man down the road whose middle name is TTR, so access to spares and techie advice is in abundance.

Plus when you visit, there's always a brew and biccies! biggrin

I've had my trusty Raid for 12 months now and it's a great little machine. Solid as a rock, relatively comfortable and plenty powerful enough for me. Easy to work on and the best bit is that Mr TTR is about as helpful a block as you could get when it comes to help, advice and spare bits. Oh and a big enough fuel tank to earn the nickname "the fuel tanker"

Spent a week end in Cornwall with a bunch of 400 KTM's and DRZ's and kept up fine - apart from the Pink Panther, mind you only 2 of our group were mad enough to attempt it. It's not going to compete on a track but on the lanes and back roads it's ideal.

Might be worth a vist to mid Devon then, I'm hoping the interesting styling will put a few folks off (and keep that price down)
JT I don't think the CRM would go down quite as low as my budget (I already asked that question)
I just found a comparison review on Thumper Talk and they come out pretty close (Raid and XR) so might be down to budget then.

Cheers Steve, I am leaning more towards the Yam, over the years I've had 5 Hondas and 4 Yams, this could equal it outsmile I like the idea of a bit more comfort and not having to stop at every fuel station!

Shorely shome mishtake ?  The XR is nowhere near a good a choice for the lanes as the TTR Raid _IMHO

That one looks tidy - I like the gold rims - got a pair from a Raid I broke for spares a couple of weeks ago. Tempted to put them on the project TTR but they may not go with the blue plastics.

The Raids tidy up well - here is one in black and tangerine by Daz from Thailand - http://ttr250.activeboard.com/t45847237/carbon-fibre-ttr-raid/ - he is going to change the gaiters so don't panic over them wink

The white Raids look quite nice as well:

XR 250 = ace  laner find a good one and you'll be sorted.

Ran one for a while, and despite the mickey taking from some on "mans bikes" still managed to kick em into touchbiggrinbiggrin

Hi Biff, I have read some great little reviews on the XR's calling them a great woods machine (whatever that means) but the Yam leads the way on here it seems. I'm not familiar with either of them (and all my Honda's had an extra cylinder) so being a bit of a sponge at the moment.

XR = nimble (in the day) lightish.  quick steering will keep up with bigger machines ridden by lesser ridersbiggrin

No leccy start - tho once you have the knack of kicking it - no probs.

Plenty enough power on the lanes. Would still have mine, if I didnt kill it in North Devonnono

Welcome to TTR world Shack smile

Motrax (remember them?) used to sell a kph to mph converter for the TTR but they are no longer available. I am hoping that a very clever mate will be able to reverse engineer the one I bought and allow some more to be made. Watch this space wink

Lots of ways to spend your hard-earned on those funny little TTR sites - two of 'em now you know biggrinbiggrinbiggrinbiggrinbiggrinbiggrin
