Front Tyre

I have been using a MT43 on the front of my TTR. Last time out I lost the front end more times than I was happy with. Prior to using the MT42 I was using a Mitas C19 on the front and was happy with that.

The C19 price at CMS is £55.99 plus if I wanted it fitted an extra £6.00, total £62.00. Albion are recommending a Mexxis M7304 (road legal) at £44.10 with free fitting. Tread pattern

http://www.rocketcentremx.co.uk/SHOP-FOR-PARTS/Tyres/Maxxis/Maxxis-M7304-Maxxcross-IT-Front/prod_2553.html

So my questions are: what is the general opinion of the Mexxis tyre and is it worth the near £20.00 saving.

Thanks :)

I don't know about the Mexxis but wonder if your MT43 would grip better with less air in it?
What pressure do you run in your tyres?

Don't know about maxxis tyres, but ask Bouncing Bob about using a trials tyre on the front! That's how he got his name

I'm flogging a 21" Vee Rubber trail tyre for £25 and am at the meet tomorrow Nick if interested. I've only done 50 miles on it??

Try Exeter Quads for good price for Maxxis.

The 43 front is suposed to have problems clearing mud out of its self. I found the 43 front was slow steering when an AC10 was fitted I was oversteering into hedges for a short time.

 Hi Pete

Been running at at 19 PSI i know that is high but have not had a single front puncture in a year. Also I can't loft the front end so more pressure protects the rim if I can't find a path round an object. What do you run your's at?

i never feel comfortable unless i have a michelin s12 or m12 on the front, m12 is the road legal one i hearwink

when you get the tyre that suits you best i would stay away from chopping and changing to save a few quid!

you certainly get used to ya tyres!

20Psi front and 15Psi rear works for me, I use softer Michelin rubber trials pattern because I find the advantages on wet rock outweigh the disadvantages in deep mud. A lot of people seem to use 15/10Psi but as you say a little more helps prevent pinch punctures.

Do you use these pete? michelin trial competition

price seems reasonable for a quality tyre £49 front and the rear is £59.

free delivery

compared with a minimum £80.00 on ebay and elsewhere.

I also have got to make a decision Nick, as I desperatley want to get back out on my bike without sliding all over the shop.

Planning on a ride the weekend but im slowly giving up on the idea, not enough hours in a day is there.

 Yes that is the one.

2,500 miles on the crm250

and 4,000 miles on the ccm230

loads of grip on rock or tarmac

I think in Harty's first post he mentioned it being a "trail tyre" - not sure if that's a proper knobbly or the dual sport ones fitted to WR250R's as standard? If so, I'd go for a "proper" knobbly on front unless you plan on doing loads of road miles and avoid muddy lanes, as trail tyres do not work very well in the snotty stuff. If it is a knobbly, then £25 is a bargainwink

Had a pair of these Maxxis off the bay of E , found them fine, quite good in fact.

" Size:- 90/90-21 & 120/90-18 Model: M7314 (rear) Maxxis Enduro, E-marked road legal tyre ideal for most enduro conditions.

The side blocks provide accurate steering in muddy conditions and are designed for aggressive cornering even in the deepest of mud."

paid £96 the pair inc post

Anyone have an opinion on the c19s.

I just want something that will do an all round job at a reasonable price and value for money, just so that I can eliminate the blame on my current set of slicks for falling off all the time!

Front and Rear

It could be the operative I suppose..disbelief..confuse

the c19 on my front didnt last that long and i wasn't overly impressed with it,maybe i was expecting it to last like the co2 on the rear which has lasted longer than three of my usual tyres (MT21)

I have a C19 on the front of the CRF and I wouldn't get another. Not worn greatly and the side blocks tend to grip ruts and I've had a few dodgy moments with them......although no doubt my incredible lack of riding talent is at least partly to blamehmm

Can't remember having the same problems with Michelin Comps or any others I've tried
