After purchasing a model KTM 400 exc for my son at the dirt bike show on friday i was not at all surprised when Saturday morning about an hour after him opening it the sidestand fell off !!!!!!!!!!!!! Seems they make the model stands out of the same material as the real ones got to laugh eh ( and yes i do own a KTM and the stands do fall off mine was missing when i got mine )
Now it just so happens that I have got the first production run of "steel" stands almost ready, they will come with a proper high tensile bolt rather than the OEM unit thats made of cheese
Price will be about the same as the original, but will last many times longer

Never had a cheesy stand moment personally, but I treat the stand as if it is made of dairylea! Yes please Tim, I prefer the prevention over cure and all that!
Fourth bodged incarnation of keeping stand alive still good will spend some time thinking about it next time.... There must be a big deal or better solution
The stands look great, my only thought is will the bracket be strong enough on the bike?
The trailtech ones dispense with the original bracket, I had one on my KTM and it was pretty solid tbh, fits up on the subframe bolt and roller bolt , I dunno whether trailtech had already gone down the route of beefing up and changing the stand only to find the bracket then snaps off, hopefully not.
The only problem I had was my KTM was slightly lowered but with the trailtech stand it was too upright, I managed to mod it slightly to allow it lean a little more but it was still too upright if down a lane and trying to park it up which usually resulted in the age old solution of just leaning the bike against the hedge.
The stands are really an aftertought and a bad one at that, why they persisted making them out of recycled drinks cans for so long is a mystery.
The one on the Husky I have now which has an original stand is tubalar steel and very sturdy and probably weighs the same or less than the KTM stand. why didn't KTM make em from hollow steel?
First batch of stands will be ready this weekend, im away until friday first job when I get back is to weld the foot pads on and then they are ready to go, complete with high tensile allen bolt and stainless steel insert
will give them a coat of grey primer, and then they can be sprayed whatever colour you desire
Can also supply the high tensile allen bolts seperatly if required at a fraction of normal price, or bolt and insert if required

I can modify one of the new stands for a lower bike at no extra cost, just let me know how long you require it
