Soon after joining the TRF you receive a welcome pack which will give you info on whom to contact for map overlays and map marking so see your welcome pack, or join if you have not already. Non members are welcome to come along for a ride or two to see if they like it.

Meanwhile keep an eye on the forum for rides out. You are spoilt for choice of lanes to ride in the area and there are numerous if irregular rides posted locally

welcome aboard westy, there is far more to ride apart from Marldon.

We ride many areas within a day out out. we tend to ride one area then quietly move onto the next, its not unusual to cover 70-100 miles.

Bashing one area just leads to problems and to be honest I wouldn't mind living on a green lane but the same bike going round and round all day would be a pain.

Once the bike is sorted, get yourself on a newbie/new members run and see for yourself. But beware tis very addictive!

Living in Marldon means zero lanes to the east... but an amazing array of lanes in all other directions.

Join the TRF and you gain access to map overlays for Google Earth and Memory Map and even a map marking service. OS maps alone are not sufficient as, while they show the lanes, many have been TROd so are closed to us.

The locals seem, in the main, pretty tolerant and generally lacking the Mr and Mrs Shouties found elsewhere but do take heed of L'orange's comment on overuse.

There are a number of members local to you who would be happy for you to join their runs - provided your new bike is a quiet trail bike and not an inadequately silenced competition machine. I recall a thread where you were seeking advice on what to buy and people advising that for trail riding you need a trail bike and not an enduro so what did you choose in the end?

Cheers,

John
