depends on the bike and how fast you want to ride! A seat might be useful and a bigger tank

just wondering if I can make the same bike cover two roles (with certain mods of course such as tank and seating for road)
just wondered whether it was feasible or too much of a stretch.
would like to do both but can only justify one bike to she who must be obeyed.

Doug used to take his Monty out - he had a clip on tanky seaty thing to extend the range - didn't use it much or go far thoughhmm

a friend used to take his out with me, it was road registered, and had an auxillary petrol tank on the front where the headlight would be on normal enduro, also a petrol can bungied to my bike on rear seat, it had a pad seat on back mudguard for a rest, made mincemeat of anything difficult, going up and down twice whilst you where still trying to get up once lol

Spotted this halfway up the Down Hillclimb section 26 on the Moor to Sea LDT, the gradient means it looks a lot taller than it is

yep, figured it would be fun once in the lanes but a pain in the 'harris' on the road bits getting to/from and in between.
problem as always is that I want to do three different things with a bike designed for one!
I can't justify a lane bike, a trials bike, occasional shortdistance commuter and a hillclimb bike!
no matter which bike I choose it's always going to be a compromise.

Try a gas gas pampera, should be just right for what you want

I used to use my Montesas on the lanes.

They were:

Too easy on the rough stuff

Too dull on the tarmac

Too uncomfortable for any distance

Too thirsty

Too small a range

Not very reliable.

Yet, being from the 70s, still much more trail-bike like than the modern breed of trick-cycles used for bunny-hopping around today's sections.

Cheers,

John

I had a road legal Montesa 4RT which i did do one run lead. Points to note: Fuel range poor, no seat unless you can get one of these below, wear on front sprocket is poor due to the small number of teeth. Most modern trials bikes have good gearing 3 low and 2 high so its ok for the road and lanes.
