I will probably be sending a complete engine less carb to Ribiers in la belle France by courier (unless anyone going that way soon?) but haven't ever made up an engine crate before. Any hints or tips on materials and techniques from anyone that has had to do it would be appreciated wink

Darn! In my haste to see what Mr TTR's next project was, I read this subject as "Creating a TTR engne" Bit dissapointed when I saw what he was up to. Just another export order.

The yanks seems to use party beer coolers to ship engines around but I don't think they as cheap to buy here.

Small pallet - beg, borrow or make.
Hard foam base pads for the engine to rest on and then strap the engine down with packing straps.
Then make a lid and sides for it out of tough card board, staple to the pallet - job done.

Either that or go to see the export depots on the business unit near Exeter Airport.
We now use TransGlobal Freight Management Ltd to do all our heavy export jobs as they are close by, cost effective and good to deal with.
They might also ber able to arrange to have your engine palletised for a small fee, but even if not you might save a bob or two using them to ship the engine.

A small paving slab pallet would do it, the ones i'm thinking of have a firm base with an upright end that the slabs lean against.

I'll see if there are any at Buildbase in the morning & let you know if you like.

I could drop one over early afternoon if it's any good (& if they have one)

I'd reckon a strong wooden pallet could be adapted and do the job nicely and keep the weight down a tad?
