any recommendations for Multi bike insurance please ( NX650 and TTR250 )

Aviva do a multi bike policy with the cost based upon the highest insurance group machine and up to four additional machines 'free'. It costs about £25 to make a change mid term if you buy or sell one, providing the highest grouping remains the same. They do stipulate no cover for off road events in the small print but since we ride on roads that need not concern you, unless you want to go to the DTRFG events that is.

Cover to ride a motorcycle not belonging to or hired to you is included on a third party only basis, so you can try before you buy and ride your mates machine legally if he says it is ok.

or ones to avoid and why ?
I know lots of people come unstuck cos of the vast reams of T&C's that are a a pain to read through and even more difficult to understand fully.
Also changing bike fees etc . what else to watch out for? would it be better to insure each one separately?
someone recommended ebike but they don't seem very competitive pricewise and I've heard that there are various stipulations hidden away that might surprise some like no MOT then you're not insured for theft etc ( even if it's resting up in the garage unused for the winter )
thanks in advance
Bill

Carole Nash,  absolutely superb, my gas gas and harley about £200 fully comp and thats fully comp that means what it says

DO NOT USE  Ebike.  A word of warning to all, after my off with the harley last year I am still fighting to get compensation. I cant say too much as the case is about to go to court, but once its over, I will put a report on the forum as to how they operate. If anyone reccomends them they are talking out of their nether regions.  Lets just say if the claim doesnt fit into one of their computer boxes they dont do anything, I only got to know about it when the other parties insurance company filed a county court claim against me!!!!

And if you have fully comp from ebike check what you are covered for, and you will be shocked, YOU ARE NOT covered to ride another bike with the owners permission, and a few other things besides

Nash are great with grey imports (TTR). But always get a full quote as a new customer on renewal as they do try it on, by about £50
I think its £20 to change a bike but never used it.

RE: any recommendations for Multi bike and multi driver insurance please?

I am currently with eBike. Mainly because they don't charge for mid-term changes. I make a lot of those for some reason!

Their renewal has come in at £292 fully comp with myself plus my bro' as a named driver and four TTR250s on the policy.

A hike of about £70 since last year evileye

Anyone know for sure of any other company that does multi bike and multi driver policies please?

Cheers

TTR

I had been with eBike for a few years due to the ease of the policy adjustments (do it yourself, on-line, in about 5mins and never seem to get charged for any of the changes). They have apparently just changed their under-writer and hence the sharp price increases (they used to be my cheapest by far, but not any more). Also lots of bad press about them - I think they actually operate out of the UK so this is always going to be an issue (like the lack of any phone number either - apart from a premium line). For my green laner I wasnt too bothered about using them, but definately wouldnt if I had an expensive road bike.

 Hastings for me this year.............

Carol Nash are ok until you change anything, then its a £35 charge - even to remove a bike or change address! They'll all get you one way or another!

Ebike.
Cheap, you can change your bike every week at no extra cost. They cover (easily) bikes that others do not, they allow multi modifications at no extra cost, unlimited euro cover and use for business.
The only down side is no third party cover to ride other machines but my car insurance does that.

They do have a non premium number you just have to look for it,

No one else would insure two of my bikes due to to many mods/unknown models

all this can be done online 24/7

I've got a DRZ and a CBF1000 on a hastings policy. I've been with them for 2 years and they were the cheapest at renewal.

 +1

ebike were too dear for the FireBlade but TPFT for the 2 CRs which get used a couple of times every couple of years - £18.

One person's bad experience does not necessarily make a company bad.  Every morning when you wake up you are a day nearer your death anyway.....yaadeyaadeyaa.......worry about the now not the IF.

Ebike for me.

You can make any changes 24/7 no cost and no hassle - dont even need to speak to anyone!

I agree with Simmo, some people have had problems with Ebike but I have used them for years and never had an issue. Mind you I have never made an insurance claim in my life. :-/
(maybe thats tempting fate)

I did NOT buy those shoes from the market Ian. They were from Russel and Bromley, and besides that little incident had nothing to do with my foot wear. It was that ladies fault for having a rude dog.

Stop hijacking this blokes insurance thread!

I renewed with eBike but just a word of warning. Check your bikes are on the insurance database. I went online to tax a TTR, the DVLA system said no can do coz it wasn't on the database. When I checked, none of the four bikes were on it! See http://www.askmid.com/askmid.aspx

what was the reason given by ebike for that Brian ?
Presumably you'd be likely to get pulled also if the police do number plate checks as they'd be referencing the same database..no ?

Having insurance prevents you from having to pay a fine and getting three points on your licence as it is a legal requirement.  It is therefore sensible to pay the least you can for this privilege.

This is more important to me than whether I'm covered for braking on dog poo or not.

"Having insurance prevents you from having to pay a fine and getting three points on your licence as it is a legal requirement"
what about if you kill someone and then the cheapo insurers reel out their numerous T & C's why you aren't covered ( undeclared modifications / deeply hidden exclusions etc ) .Guess who'll be paying out for the rest of their life ? Surely that has to be a consideration although I fully accept ( being as guilty as the next man ) that v cheap cover is /has been tempting and you just have to keep fingers crossed. I also accept that you can pay a heavy premium and still be subject to numerous requirements which you or your machine may not meet in the case of an accident. It does seem that as the old saying goes you get what you pay for.

Killing someone is not my immediate concern when buying insurance.  Being legal with a clean licence is.  Insurance companies are not the only protection available to the man in the street.  Russian Mafia are quite effective and I bet they don't bother with insurance policies as we know them.
