we are generally quick to be critical of poor service but not so quick to say wen all has gone well.

I have just had a wheel re built (new rim) by Doug Richardson at the Devon Rim Company in South Molton. The result was a very well finished wheel, higher spec than standard, bang on time and a sensible price. I am really chuffed and would not hesitate to recommend him.
By the way- DID- Dont. My old DID rim was well into a journey of disintegration. There is something about the alloy used that isnt keen on the environment we ride in. Bits of alloy were flaking away inside the rim although the outer surface looked fine. I suppose they are eight years old but even so!!!!
