Changing a name on an Easyjet booking?

Flying out to Malaga for a couple of days trail riding with Baz and Kaz at the Adventure Riding Centre with my bro' Trev and son Matt.

Our steeds will be 2013 Husabergs but rumour has it they are pure orange under their yellow/blue skin no

The reason for my post is to ask for advice on a typical EasyJet fiasco.

I booked Matt in as "Matt" rather than Matthew (which is the name on his passport) and this was only realised when he printed out his boarding pass.

Is this likely to cause a real problem? I was going to change his name to Matthew on the flight booking but EasyJet want me to pay £140 for the changes confuse

Advice appreciated, particularly from anyone that has had the same issue.

I saw this issue on Tv the other day although that was for the wrong surname, hopefully just an abbreviated first name won't be an issue...

Thanks Rich. Was it Watchdog or somesuch? Wouldn't mind trying to find it on playback.

You need to check as sometimes its cheaper to buy a new ticket, than to change an existing one

Check on the availability of toilets on board, some of them now are charging for toilet use on short flights

Also check your baggage allowance as quite a few of them are now charging for overweight carry on hand luggage

Also check that your passport is working correctly dont put it in the same pocket or near a mobile phone as this buggers up the chip in the new passports and the automated check in machines cant read your passport and some of them will charge extra for an old style check in where you deal with a human

This recently happened to my passport

And Pray that you dont have to go anywhere near Charles De Gaulle Paris, Your trip wiill be cursed and doomed if you do

I experienced similar recently with BA/security in the states. I've only ever had my initial and full surname on a ticket/boarding pass for years, however on my last trip it was questioned. I travelled out ok but on our return after the wife and kids went through security I was stopped.

"I'm sorry sir your boarding pass is not the same name as in your passport, you must get this amended before you are allowed on the flight, have nice day" !!!

I went back to the ticketing desk and got a new boarding pass in my full name, free of charge.

As per jt link, other companies may use the mistake to charge 'admistration fees'

I booked easyjet as 'Steve' instead of 'Stephen' a couple of years ago. I only noticed at Bristol Airport & got a bit worried but had no problems.

That's very reassuring Steve - much appreciated.

Thanks also to everyone else for their help and advice.

We have decided to wing it rather than stump up the £140. The flight booking used Matt's passport as his identifying document so it should be obvious that we weren't trying to smuggle a terrorist on board or whatever. If there is a problem and we have to pay up then we are no worse off.

Not used this particular tour company before although we know the guide and his wife as they used to be with ToroTrail. I will report back in due course!

Brian,

Send Baz & Caz our regards. So they have set up in competition with Lyndon?

Regards,

Alex

It all went fine thanks goodness. The boarding passes at Bristol and Malaga were electronically scanned and not matched to passport names so no problems at all!

Saved £140 biggrin

Thanks again for the advice guys!
