I never used to have an appreciation for 'custom' cycles until I started watching American Chopper MANY years ago (that show's gone down hill since its about the family feuds rather than the bikes!) Discovery Channels 'Biker Build Off' came next with many a drool-worthy bike (I love Matt Hotch's bikes and I see one of 'Walz Hardcore Cycles' efforts in JT's link - nice!) Whilst spending the weekend at my sisters here in London I noted there's an awesome looking custom cafe racer style bike a few doors up from her, she tell me it's Matt Willis' bike (he's the dude from the boy/pop band 'Busted' and of 'Im a Celebrity' fame) he and his misses Melanie Griffiths have recently moved into the neighbourhood! Having read up he's well into his bikes so it seems having had several before this one. I would attach a link but dunno how on this iPad and I didn't want to be caught taking pics! Google it, it's not the Harley one, it's the one with a Ducati-esq headlight, clip-ons and a number 13 on the tank, it looks pukka in the flesh!!!: Shame it lives out on the street

bike cost me 1300 to build jsut sold it for 2500 20 hours work now i can aford to make a better one consider it as a learing curve as there was things i was not happy with

 

 

also done about 400 miles on it and totaly love it hence wanting to build a better one

I know on this forum opinion is divided about custom bikes and road bikes - I just love bikes and some of these machines are just works of art.
Pretty much the same opinion as Kwaka Geoff (who rides a KTM) American chopper years back showed some fantastic ideas for custom bikes and since then Biker build off took over.

If you do like these types of bikes, The Harley D. Blood looks good and the Waltz (64) but in my opinion......... that Sportster (27) is one of the best sportsters I have seen a picture of, love it.

Good post JT, kept me away from work long enough

I wonder if the scooter with knobblies will inspire any mods to join the TRF.

I was on a trail run in Northumberland last October where one bloke used a scooter. (Lambretta Li 150)

It performed surprisingly well - after it was man-handled up the steps. smile

The rider then pi55ed off and left the three helpers to their own devices. furious

Building bikes is a great passion of mine, no to the extent or cash outlay that these guys go to, but I do love the engineering that goes into it.
My proudest moment was having my fireblade street fighter featured in street fighters magazine.
I enjoy the building more that the finished product.

 Seems to be a common trait where people spend ages building something, then sell it immediately, seemingly without taking time to ride and appreciate their creation. CR500/KTM anybody?

Personally I would not waste time building something I did not want to ride. Add up the hours spent for the financial return and you are way below minimum wage, what price altruism? (Or more commonly it seems like an excuse to spend time away from 'er indoors, or something to talk about in the pub).

I can only suppose that because bikers had become used to spending the weekends fettling their steeds ready for the next week riding (because motorcycles haven't always been as consistent as they are nowadays), now that we have reliable machinery that time is spent frivolously creating something new (or rebuilding something orange).

When travelling do you enjoy the journey or the destination more?  I can think of a lot of stories about my journeys but not many about my destinations.

Do builders live in every house they build?  What about lactose intollerant dairy farmers?  Sex or parenthood - which would you rather have?

I agree, I rode my street fighter for a while, then decided it needed improving, so I sold it to build something different. I don't need to ride the bikes I build as I have 2 other bikes for that. It's the challenge of the build rather than the outcome. I've owned over 60 bikes in the last 14 years and standard stuff is no challenge, I build it for me and no one else.

I get the pleasure in the building bit, I get the sell it to fund a better one next time bit - but am confused by the build it for me and no one else if I'm never intending to ride it anyway bit biggrin

think a lot of non scootering chaps would be surprised to hear,scooter sport is very popular, with sprinting, scooter cross, grass track and track racing, all of which i watched in my scootering days, even took my lambretta 240cc on the 1/4 mile at avon park at a repectable 94 mph for a road going bike, and scooter cross is nuts, wouldnt think i would want to try some of it on my 450 lol, couple of photos for you to giggle at, one of me in 79 on my lambretta, and one of my 240cc in late 80s

yes silly prices, had loads of lambrettas, wish i still had the tv200, sx200, gp200, i would be loaded lol, sort off been browsing ebay looking for another as well as my bikes, but really prices are pretty mad, check out us lot on an innocenti gp200 electronic at isle of wight 82, the purists would cry, did you ever do the LCGB rallys at kesterfield in okehampton?

All my posts make sense.  It all depends on the quality of the receiver, also the complete alignment of the planet and moon in the zuguarsi heterol system helps too.....
