Big pumps - sorted now...

Anyone have any big diesel pumps I can get TONIGHT?

Need to be 4"/ 6" bore and would need a lot of pipe and be able to lift over 15ft......

Doubtful I know but hmm

4" is some size for water movement.
Hopefully your not flooded?

Most outboard engine dealers who deal with Mercury/ Mariner now stock 2" diesel pumps as standard.

JT  SLD pumps were who we used to hire big pumps from for diving projects, they used to do pumps up to 12 inch from there yard in Exeter and could get bigger  up to 30 inch intakes fairly quickly.  Dont know if they still do them but its worth a call

We use, Sykes, SLD, Selwood and A plant for 4-6 inch pumps. All have out of hours no's as well so somebody should be able to sort you out in an emergency. Do you need an abstraction licence to draw that volume of water?

Thanks - but it took 4 x fire engines to do what we needed in the end so not sure your pump would have been big enough wink offer appreciated though smile

"Fire crews will be helping to protect the main Plymouth to London train line at Cowley Bridge, Exeter, from the threat of disruption from flooding during the early hours of Saturday morning.

The line was closed during a period of adverse weather at the end of last month after the nearby river overflowed and led to the line being closed.

Following warnings today from the Met Office and Environment Agency, the rail company has requested the assistance of fire crews to help prevent floodwater from damaging signalling at the junction, which could lead to the line closing again.

Four fire crews will construct barriers from around 12midnight to 3am on Saturday morning to help divert water away from the Cowley Bridge junction area.

The actions of the fire crews are designed to keep damage to a minimum to help protect an important part of the south wests transport infrastructure."

There is loads of water in the bit between the railway and the Exeter - Stoke Canon road which gets in when the Exe comes over the bank at Staffords bridge. When the volume of water coming in over that bank is more than the culverts below the junction at Cowley can cope with then it comes up over and bursts through the railway. The cofferdams are to difert the flow back into the Exe and stop it running along the track under the bridge and back down towards St Davids destroying all my kit on its way as it did last time.
