KLR 650- anyone had one (or got one)

Hi all, I have an itch I want to scratch, anyone know much about these bad boys? I've read about the doohickey but anything good/ bad or ugly I need to be aware of?

Thanks in advance

You could try klr650.net but i think you have to register to get full access to the site. i don't know if they were an official import here so parts could be a problem.

yeah I have had two an early and a late model, both were great bikes making the most power out of the xt, dr, models, they are built like the forth bridge, with the result that they are very heavy and can be a nightmare on the lanes because of this. Also fit and finish is not up to much.

All together a great, strong bike that will cover many miles, providing that it does not get left in a hole because it`s so heavy. A road bike with knobblies really.

Thanks for that guys, I'll flick through the site and see what is around, and a real mile monster is what I'm after, and yes at the expense of cheeky little lanes I know.

I had the klr600 long time ago & it was a cracking little bike, only complaint was it was elec start only & on a cold day it was a sod to start. Now time has moved on & i have a KLX650 & well Um if its sheer torque you want then the klx is for you. off road its a bit heavy but you have all the power you would ever need to pull you through. i used to trail ride my klx & there aint a bank it wont go up & dont worry about gears any will do Saying that mine is a bit special as i bored the old girl out & its a 680 now.
Decompressors rattle like hell on klx's & i think the klr has the same type. the klx has 2 cam chains & the klr has 1. therefore the klx is always prone to a bit of rattle.

i have owned kwaks for as long as i can remember & usually they have little faults that are usually easy fixed & will keep going on & on & on.

i have heard the cam tensioners are the weak link but after 10 years on my klx i have not suffered this fault. i guess its how you look after something.

Nice offer, what I'm after is something that I can plop along the motorway with my heated jacket plugged in, pass a load of petrol stations smug with my big tank, and altough it will come at the cost of all but mild lanes, those are the ones I like! (Thats why I think the KLR might be the bike that ticks those boxes)

Budget is a lowly £1500
