For over 20 years I've owned a tin of Castrol LM general purpose mechanical grease -- and its helped me out with my mechanical lubing on many an occasion (dont use much on the bike though).

Well after all this time, I have just noticed on the rear of the tin it lists all Castrol grease products and what to use each one for.

Having a quick scan of this I was outstanded when I got to the bottom of the list...........take a look/read.......

 

 

How can an underwater grease not be waterproof............. WTF confuse

 

I'm sure RichT4 will love this and create his scientific response in due course......wink

What you need is heavy grease matebiggrin

Thing is, underwater grease is there purely to lube the propeller shaft, at max 1500rpm. The stern gland packing / dripless seal is what stops the water entering......

If you remember old seagull engines the gear oil deliberately mixed with the water, I think this is what this stuff does - But its badly named!

reading the tin i would say only the top line apply which is Castrol LM grease the rest are other types of grease do you thinks so ?hmm
