National TRF forum debate(s)

TBH Pete I have never been on the national one but will make the time to have a look.

I can perhaps see that one national forum with 'County' sections may be of value though - but would something that 'big' work and provide the same 'feeling' as this forum (when its working well as it is now)?

As I say I'm going to 'explore' the national one and will come back to this thread.

I don't use the national forum as it looks even more anal than this one gets sometimes. Why do we have county trf groups? Why not just one group and one forum? Not that this is what I want as I have no interest in worrying sheep in Wales or inbreeding in Norfolk. Don't even want to think about what goes on Cantebury or worse still ****hampton!

I have to say i Rarely visit the national forum. It seems somewhat cluttered with all the group sections etc. Maybe it would be better if they just had one section with links to all subsequent separate group websites/forums?

My intrest in the TRF lies here in devon and that were my efforts go, loggingon to another forum is just wasting my time. The real plus side is here on our forum is that we have control and are more open in our views.

This forum was well established before the national one started and it is hard to bring "change"

Minor annoyances limit use of the national forum as well. Having to log in evrytime as the remember me refuses to work for a start.

The one stop shop is a great idea but trying to implement and moderate it on a national scale where you do not know the other users is a hard task.

But as a group we should monitor it and respond to any requests in a timely fashion.

Any volunteers ?

Having just logged in another reason is that is doesn't look very interesting and the topics under discussion seem pretty similar. Why read two newspapers when one does the job?

IMHO this forum works very well. Most of the people who use the forum are known to me, either personally or by reputation and that gives the forum a friendly local feel. The benefits of this local, friendly feeling forum are how quickly forum users volunteer their time and resources to help each other.

I think if we moved to the national it would soon become impersonal, just another forum rather that our forum.

The local forum as a marketing tool for the Devon trf attracts member and allows prospective members to get involved before they commit to paying their £45 to the national. I got involved via the forum, I looked at the national site and thought this is ****e, not interested in doing this, there is nobody in my area doing anything how wrong could I be. Fortunately Doug had told me about the Devon TRF site.

Moderating of any forum can be difficult, keeping everything civil and pleasant but having local moderators who know the characters of the people involved allows sympathetic but effective moderation.

I happily pay £45 towards the National TRF in the hope that they will make a difference and protect the lanes for all of use to enjoy. But I dont want to lose our forum to the National.

I don't think the point is "which one came first" more which system is best for the users in Devon. I feel local identity is very important.

I wouldn't mind changing if popular demand justified it. We would lose control of moderating it but at least TRFers in other parts of the country would be able to see what's going on down 'yer.

I had not realised that the DTRFG forum predated the national one.

Moderating a national forum would very likely be too much for one person and I think it would be envisaged that each group would retain control of its own section.

Which would you use if it was free ? Porche or Trabant ? i would go for the forma, it just works and does not smell like my 2 smoke.

I have never had much success in getting onto the national forum, and when I have I wondered why I bothered, much like the Devon yahoo forum, a nd I can't remember my pass word for that so I don't bother

Lets keep the forum we all know and love, even if it does get a bit acrimonious at times, always remembering it would be difficult to take the pyss out of Pearcy on the national one, and who would understand what banjo playing in the east was about.

Would be great if they had a couple hundred devon forum users on the national site smile

+1, it's what got me involved, probably wouldn't have joined the TRF but for this site
