Which Honda for mostly Green lanes/enduro ...and the occasional moto cross tracks [for fun, not comp]

Hi

I'm fairly new to this, having only done a couple of enduro experience days but now I'm looking for a bike. I've narrowed it down to either a KTM 250 EXC-F or a 350 EXC-F ...OR a Honda CRF (Four Stroke) mostly for enduro/green laning.

Please can anyone put forward their opinions on which 250cc four stroke Honda would best suit? I don't quite get which model I should be looking at (CRF,  CRF X, R/etc. or what?) as they all seem to be labelled as MX bikes rather than Enduro.

Any help is most welcome.

actually, I'm also wondering which requires the least maintenance between a 2 stroke or a 4 stroke bike. I'm used to 4 stroke road bikes and would guess that 4 stroke is less hassle in may ways, and rides smoother in awkward/slippery conditions.

Am I right to think this?

If you want a Honda four stroke trail bike you want a CRF230

All the other CRF range are motox bikes, not trail bikes.

Crf 250x for the mix of everything better suspension than the 230 and you will get a newer model for the same money as a ktm

Yes to my no, Yes to less hassle or Yes to easier to ride confuse

 

Either way - I'm sticking to No for all, cept maybe the easier to ride (for a novice) and then it depends on the conditions smile

If you want a Honda four stroke trail bike you want a CRF230

 The crf x is most definitely not a mx bike, in fact you would be questioned if you called it an Enduro bike the power and suspension is so soft. They do however make a great bike for tail and occasional track use in either 250 or450 form. They do need a bit of fettling to make them truly road legal as they are not homologated from new.

What you want is a almost silent bike, cheap to run , at least 85mpg ,top speed about 45/50mph ,real cheap insurance ,and it must be able to Clean any Rocky or Tricky lane

great, thanks for the links. I had already tried searching but not come across those ...hence the new post.

I've got some bedtime reading to do.

I'll do my own maintenance so, in light of the subtle comment about bike parts, in general, is the KTM more expensive on spares than the Honda's ...and is there anything between them on ease of maintenance?

I'm not going to rise to the debatenobut will just say I ride a CRF450X and have for over three years Best bike I have owned and it is far less maintenance than any two stroke I have owned FACT

And yes JT I own both

 Don't know about Honda, but my KTM is cheaper on bits than my old Yammy - there are so many about bits are plentyfull, cheap and very easy to obtain (now wait for the comments about just picking them up from the lanes - all bollocks yawn other than the stands which is all true wink)

And if your going to maintain yourself get a 2T - trust me I own one, you will note the anti 2t comment come from those that don't wink much easier, less compex and a lot cheaper....

 If and when I turn back to a 4T then a CRF 250 ( or a 450 wink) would be right at the top of my list....and as you own both then fair play biggrin
