i was travelling home the other night at 11pm on my transalp when i hit the pothole at the junction of st marychurch rd and twickenham road,
the very same one that pete bull reported a while ago.
and as a result my front wheel is quite badly buckled.
as pete reported it and it still hasn't been fixed i  was wondering if i could make a claim to have it fixed as they obviously haven't repaired it,
any ideas before i contact them?

!

It's at least worth a try, especially if you get photographic evidence of the pot hole, your damaged wheel, and state you know it was reported on such-and-such a date.

Yes you stand a good chance, but be prepared for the question that says - if you knew it was there why did you drive over it?

i will just say that after chatting about the pot hole on a bike forum i was made aware that it had already been reported!

I did note that the potholes on Pete's video had all been filled in a shrt while later, but like most 'repairs', seems to have returned.

Worth a go I would say.

I wish I knew which pothole my wife hit, that broke the spring on her car. Maybe it was also this one!

The pothole which did this.....

Buckled.JPG

...to my Super Four rear wheel was repaired before I realised there was any damage to the wheel. I was quoted over £700 to replace with new, but spent £35 on e-bay and a very kind TRF member (thanks Ray) swapped the tyre onto the new wheel and refused to charge me.

I took legal advice:

Make a Freedom Of Information request to the County Council who have a duty to maintain the roads asking for details of road maintainance inspections carried out on this stretch of highway over the past two years. If no inspections were carried out then the council cannot claim to have shown due dilligence and are consequently more likely to pay out when sent a bill.

Send the council a bill. They may pay out.

And a reminder, when they do not pay.

Apply to the Small Claims Court, based in Nottingham, for a court date. This is done online, unlike in the past when you could go to your local courthouse, and initially all cases are scheduled in Nottingham. Cases that proceed to court are allocated to a local courthouse.

For £35 I couldn't be bothered.

I did not report the pothole to the council, but someone must have because they did repair it, or maybe they actually inspected the road and found it themselves.

Your move.....

Even if it had been repaired, I have seen the standard of workmanship applied to these "holes". A quick dolop of cold tarmac, and a quick tamp with something about as heavy as the back of a shovel. First time it rains with any gusto, it washes out.
Gone are the old days when they used to seal around the edge of the repair to stop water getting in there and washing it out.
Privatised Bogit and Scarper .......
Maybe someone ought to explain the seven P's to them biggrin

It would be interesting to see how truthful the Freedom of Information reply is, as it appears the local cyclists had also reported it a couple of times

http://www.fillthathole.org.uk/hazard/75432

http://www.fillthathole.org.uk/hazard/85785

when I first saw it, it had already been marked for repair with spray paint, so I only reported the ones further up near the Palm Farm.

Good luck.

On a slightly different note I'm about to have the fourth replacement windscreen in Josh's Berlingo this year. Three of the cracks have been in the same area.  The fourth one I actually saw the stone fall off the back of the lorry, and I ducked!

Local authorities have just been given a bucket load of cash to repair the local road network, so here's hoping!

Yes, all well and good ..... but if it's done to the same standard as usual, they will need another bucket load of cash to do it all again in a few months !

I passed through here today, the pot holes are gone, infact all the manhole covers look new with a square of new tarmac around each, suggesting a proper job done.

We'll see.
