I think you'll find this is a slight can of worms. That's because the actual MOT certificate you have is a standard certificate - the same as a normal one. However with the MOT would have come an advisory to state "for daytime use only".

Therefore, as long as the bike was fully fit for night riding (lights, brake light, horn) then i don't know why you even have to go back for a new mot - as you have corrected the advisory, similar to replacing a tyre that past an mot but was advised as being close to the limit.

I may be wrong on the above and if you want to be 101% sure you will need to get it re-MOTed, but actually, for reasons above, I'm not sure that's necessary.

Be interesting to hear others views on this.

You need a horn for an MOT, regardless of whether it is for daylight use only.

I'm with Wheely on this one.
Once the advisory is corrected then the mot should be valid after dark.
You should have a hi/low dipping headlight.
Your mot tester is a fool to pass anything with no horn though.

I think your gona need a main beam as well. But you're nearly there. Does you're MOT cert state day time only ect, as its changed a bit with computer generated certs. If not I wouldn't worry about it.

No such thing as day time MOT, the advisory would state:

. only used during daylight hours, and
. not used at times of seriously reduced visibility

It is a traffic offence to drive/ride a motor vehicle without lights during the hours of darkness or seriously reduced visibility.

Exceptions for Indicators:

If direction indicators are fitted they must meet the requirements of this inspection, but need not be fitted to a machine which:
. cannot exceed 30mph / 50kph, or
. was first used before 1 August 1986, or
. 'off road' machines which are designed to carry only the rider.
. 'off road' machines with side car designed to carry the rider and one passenger in the side car.

off road machines are constructed or adapted primarily for use off roads (whether by reason of its tyres, suspension, ground clearance or otherwise).

I did an mot last week and all they now state is

"lights not fitted at time of test"

yes that is what is on my mot as an advisory but it also states test class II

The test classes are:

Class I Motor bicycles (with or without side cars) up to 200cc
Class II All motor bicycles (including Class I) (with or without side cars).
Class III 3-wheeled vehicles not more than 450 kg unladen weight (excluding motor bicycles with side cars).

ok thanks i was wondering what the class ment so as the other guys said about the advisories i have now sorted them and i cant see why my bike aint fit for dark
