2004 vauxhal vivaro gear box needs replacing

hi i have a vivaro and the gear box has gone i need it replaced ive found someone in birmingham that will do a exchange for my old one for a reconditioned one plus i pay £499 but still need it to be fitted not only that but ill have to take the old box out then take it to him and do  the deal then to bring back for fitting.

exeter street garage said they will suply a clutch and do the gear box for £360

does anyone know of anywhere more local for a reconditioned gear box

Be careful with a 2nd hand box on a Vivaro, Traffic or Primastar (same van).
The gearbox's always go at around 60k miles.
Mine went at 70k but I was careful with it.
It cost around £1200 to fix with a new clutch.

Cornwall and Devon transmissions are extremely well rated too. From a mechanic friend of mine and others that have used them

Based in Ivybridge, so nice and close to you.

Mine was done by Exeter Gearbox Centre http://www.exetergearboxcentre.co.uk/index.asp

They were recommended to me & they did a quick decent job (2 days off the road).

The main man is an ex biker, he doesn't ride any more due to the loss of a leg in an accident.

Not that thats got anything to do with anything, just remembered that's all smile

that seems to be the price everywhere did they rebuild your box or fit another reconditioned box

They rebuilt my box & checked it over before doing the work.

They gave me the option of having the clutch changed whilst it was being sorted.  The old clutch was 80% worn so could have gone on for a while but as I intend keeping the van for a while I thought it best in the long run.
