WRF 400 oil level

Hi, its me again. if anyone read my last post about not being able to start my bike, thanks to all the advice from here, i can now start it 1st time evry time, cheers :)

Checked the oil level, was told the dipstick is in the frame below the steering wheel,  unscrewed it and its on the low mark. How do it check the level please, by screwing it back in, or just resting on top? And need to top up, but havnt a clue what oil to use please? Is a 2001 model, cheers

The bike must be warm. Start and run it for a couple of minutes then with the bike upright dip it with it resting on top not screwed in.

10-40 semi oil my 400 and 450 were the same. keep a eye out for a 2004/5 wr450 exhaust cam, it will have a auto decopressor lever on it and will make starting a lot easier.
i had one on my 400 and never used the lever. and yes it fits straight in and is not to difficult to fit.
